Duleep Trophy 2024 squads announced, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad named as captains

The squads for Duleep Trophy have been announced and youngsters like Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been named as the leader of their respective sides. Contrary to the ongoing news of senior players taking on the domestic tournament, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah will not be featuring in the Duleep Trophy. Moreover, the senior spin prospect, R Ashwin has failed to earn a spot in any of the teams. Mohammed Shami, meanwhile, will continue his rehabilitation, giving a miss to the domestic tournament. Moreover, the likes of KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja will be teaming up in the same squad for the series.

Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad turn captains in the Duleep Trophy

The young Indian opener, Shubman Gill will lead Team A, which features players like Riyan Parag, KL Rahul, Shivam Dube, and Kuldeep Yadav. Easwaran will lead Team B, which includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rishabh Pant. All-rounder Nitish Reddy is also part of the squad, but his participation depends on his fitness.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain Team C, with key players like Suryakumar Yadav, Sai Sudharsan, and Rajat Patidar strengthening the batting lineup. As anticipated, Ishan Kishan is set to return to action, joining Team D, captained by Shreyas Iyer. The squad also features Devdutt Padikkal, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh, among others.

The BCCI has confirmed that players selected for India's home Test series against Bangladesh will be replaced in the Duleep Trophy squads. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 5, with Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur and Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium chosen as the venues. The first-class tournament will conclude on September 22.
