The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season has definitely reached another level while talking from the run-scoring and team totals point of view. During some of the matches, it seemed like the batters from both the teams were bashing the bowlers with a lot of ease. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been one such team who have played an aggressive and intimidating brand of cricket throughout the league stage of the T20 competition especially in the batting department. Other teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have also looked in a staggering form when it comes to posting mammoth totals. In this blog piece, we take a look at how SRH took over RCB highest score in IPL history in this year.

SRH overtakes RCB Highest Score in IPL History

In this Indian Premier League 2024 season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have crossed the 260-run mark as many as three times, scoring 266 for 7 against Delhi Capitals, 287 for 3 against Royal Challengers Bangalore and 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians. It was the explosive duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma who kickstarted the massacre against Mumbai Indians in the 8th match of IPL 2024. Head played a fantastic innings of 62 runs that came off just 24 balls which included 9 fours and 3 sixes while Abhishek smashed 63 runs off only 23 deliveries that consisted of as many as 7 sixes and 3 fours.

On the other hand, SRH's swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen too looked in an amazing form having blasted an incredible unbeaten knock of 80 runs off only 34 balls. The Sunrisers Hyderabad went on to register the highest total in IPL history, posting a massive 277 for 3 in their quota of 20 overs. The Royal Challengers Bangalore had the previous biggest total in IPL history , having scored 263 for 5 against Pune Warriors India in 2013.

At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Sunrisers Hyderabad once again showed their batting prowess and this time it was against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were once again at their power-hitting show right from the first delivery of the match. They added a fine opening partnership of 108 runs in just 8.1 overs. Head went on to smash his maiden IPL century and notched up a blistering innings of 102 runs off only 41 balls that included 9 fours and 8 sixes. While being promoted in the batting line-up at the No. 3 position, Klaasen smacked a remarkable knock of 67 runs off just 31 deliveries that consisted of 7 sixes. The Sunrisers Hyderabad overtook their own IPL record in that game having posted the biggest team score in the IPL history, 287 for 3 in their quota of 20 overs.

During the same game, the Royal Challengers Bangalore players also came out in an all guns blazing fashion, scoring 262 for 7, but eventually ended up losing the match by a margin of 25 runs. In the game against Delhi Capitals, the Sunrisers Hyderabad once again breached the 260-run mark, putting up a record total of 266 runs. The duo of Head and Abhishek toyed with the Delhi bowlers hitting a superb total of 125 runs in the first six overs of the powerplay. This means that the Sunrisers Hyderabad have scored three of the biggest team totals in the IPL history.
