SRH vs LSG IPL 2025: 3 mistakes made by Sunrisers Hyderabad; Check out IPL 2025 points table
Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their first loss of IPL 2025 at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday. Given the strong start SRH had to the season, they were touted as favourites to win the clash. However, Lucknow Super Giants, led by Nicholas Pooran’s masterclass, stunned the home team with a comprehensive five-wicket victory. On a pitch offering little assistance to the bowlers, Pat Cummins and his side managed to post 190 runs in the first innings.
Nicholas Pooran made light work of SRH’s bowling attack in the second innings, guiding his team to chase down the target in just 16.1 overs with five wickets in hand. Pooran played a match-winning knock of 70 runs off just 26 deliveries, while Mitchell Marsh contributed a valuable 52 off 31 balls. Skipper Pat Cummins will have several issues to address before their third game.
In this article, we highlight three key mistakes that SRH made in their clash against Lucknow Super Giants:
1. Batters Failing to Convert Starts into Big Scores
Sunrisers Hyderabad adhered to their aggressive strategy from the outset, with several batters getting off to promising starts and putting the opposition under pressure. Travis Head scored 47, while Reddy contributed 32 off 28 balls. Heinrich Klaasen (26) and Ankit (36) also looked in good touch. However, none of the players managed to stay at the crease long enough to anchor the innings. Had any batter capitalized on their start and played through to the end, SRH could have set a daunting target in the range of 230-250. Converting those starts into substantial knocks will be crucial in future games.
2. Failure to Build a Big Partnership
While SRH posted a competitive score of 190 runs, they failed to establish a game-changing partnership. Despite strong starts, Lucknow Super Giants, led by Rishabh Pant’s sharp captaincy, consistently broke partnerships at crucial junctures. LSG’s bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals, preventing SRH from gaining significant momentum. One solid partnership in the middle overs could have significantly bolstered their total, but it never materialized.
3. Poor Bowling Display
For the second consecutive match, SRH's bowling unit underperformed. Mohammed Shami showed promise early on but couldn’t sustain the pressure. Harshal Patel remained ineffective in the middle overs, while Adam Zampa has been expensive, conceding 94 runs in eight overs across two games. Pooran and Marsh took advantage of the lackluster bowling, stitching together a 116-run partnership for the second wicket. Despite Cummins trying different bowling options, SRH failed to break the stand. The bowlers’ inability to deliver consistent performances has become a growing concern for the team.
Addressing these issues will be imperative for SRH as they look to bounce back in the tournament.
