In yesterday’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the home team, Hyderabad, faced a defeat by 35 runs while chasing a target of 207 runs in 20 overs. It was the third defeat for the Orange Army in the ongoing tournament after playing 8 games in the Indian Premier League. Talking about this loss in the post-match presentation, the Former New Zealand cricketer and head coach of Hyderabad said that it’s not necessary, that every time our openers scored runs, it was an off day for them and the middle order was unable to contribute with the bat, which is one of the reasons for the loss.
Talking about this, the Sunrisers Hyderabad Head Coach said,
"Obviously we were confident because of the scores we were able to put up," Vettori said after the game. "We thought that 206 was a good score, there was a real confidence in the group because of past performances.
"We also know that it's been set up by the openers and today they had an off day and that's cricket and you have off days. We don't expect them to perform 14 games and unfortunately we didn't get the support in the middle stages. It's a tough loss but we understand that every team in the IPL can beat every team, there are no easy games at all."
Royal Challenger Bangalore took revenge of their last game which was played at their home ground and Hyderabad defeated them by 29 runs by putting a huge target of 288 runs in 20 overs. With this loss, the tournament has become more interesting, as apart from Rajasthan Royals, no team has got more than 10 points in their respective game. If we look at the points table 3 teams have 10 points whereas 3 teams have got 8 points after playing 7 games so far in the league..
Vettori also pointed out that his team are good at putting a giant total on the board by batting first, but now they also need to think about chasing the game in the second innings.
"We have been successful setting totals and now we have to look at our way of chasing. We come up against a really good team in Chennai so I suppose for us is removing ourselves from this game and understanding that the Chepauk wicket could be different and we may have to go about it in a different manner. I still think on this ground, on these surfaces we have to take the game on."
If the surfaces around the country do start getting slower, Jaydev Unadkat could become a key part of that SRH bowling attack. "I think when the surface suits him and to be fair to him he probably gets more bounce and has the ability to stop the ball on the wicket than most," he said. "Because he almost bowls a top spinner with those slow ball bouncers, so he is really good when he has a set plan. Obviously we left him out in the last game because we thought the surface wasn't quite conducive to him in Delhi but this ground (Hyderabad) he has had three very good performances for us."
Hyderabad will play their next game against Chennai Super Kings at their Den in Chepauk Stadium.
