In the exciting fourth match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Sri Lanka will be locking horns with South Africa scheduled to begin on 3 June, 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. While talking about Sri Lanka's recent form, the Wanindu Hasaranga-led team registered a brilliant 2-1 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe earlier this year. On the other hand, South Africa will surely be hoping to make a comeback after they suffered a disappointing 0-3 T20I series defeat at the hands of West Indies. However, it will be really important for both Sri Lanka and South Africa to kickstart their campaign on a positive note.
Sri Lanka ended up winning the 2014 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup where they defeated India in the finals. The Lankan side also won the Asia Cup 2022 that was played in the T20I format, but they have failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the last two editions of the T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022 in UAE and Australia respectively. Sri Lanka also ended up conceding a poor 5-wicket loss at the hands of Netherlands in their first warm-up fixture. However, the Wanindu Hasaranga-led team then defeated Ireland during their second warm-up match. Sri Lanka have a very balanced squad this year with a good mixture of experienced and young talented players who can perform well at this level.
On the other hand, South Africa's squad for this T20 World Cup 2024 is a lot different than that appeared in the recent T20I series defeat in the West Indies. Majority of their main players were busy in the rcently concluded edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) with their respective franchises. After their heartbreaking loss against Netherlands in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2022, South Africa will surely be eyeing to comeback with a improved and stronger performance this year. They have a lot of firepower in their batting department but a lot of things will depend on their consistency and performance in knockout matches.
