Sunil Narine Surpasses Ravichandran Aswin's Record In IPL

The former West Indies all-rounder has been in top-notch form in the ongoing India Premier League, where he is the leading run-scorer from the Kolkata-based franchise in the ongoing tournament with 461 runs in 13 games with an average of 38, having 1 hundred and 3 half-centuries to his name. Apart from his incredible batting, the off-spinner has also picked key wickets for his team in the middle overs, which has helped them to reach in the playoffs of the IPL 2024. Narine has picked 15 wickets in  13 games with an efficiency of 6 by conceding 312 runs.

After securing a place in the final of IPL 2024, Sunil Narine achieved an incredible record after the match, as he surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin's record to become the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history.

In the crucial match, Narine bowled a four-over spell, conceding 40 runs and taking the wicket of Sanvir Singh, who was dismissed for a golden duck in the 14th over. This wicket was Narine's 179th in the IPL, pushing him past Ashwin's 178 wickets. Despite Narine struggling while batting in the second innings, Narine gave a solid start to KKR team in the chase of 159 as he made a partnership of 41 runs with Afghanistan wicket-keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who played his first match of IPL 2024 and scored 23 runs in 14 balls with a strike rate of 164.

Ashwin, who has played 210 IPL matches, now stands just behind Narine, who has achieved his tally in 174 games. However, the record for most wickets has been with Yuzvendra Chahal, who has picked 204 wickets in 158 games.

KKR's victory over SRH not only secured their direct entry into the IPL 2024 final but also set up a tense Qualifier 2. SRH will face the winner of the eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for another chance to compete in the final.
