Speaking to the media, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh explained the reason behind leaving out Jake Fraser-McGurk from the Australia T20 World Cup 2024 squad, which is slated to begin on June 1. The dashing opener was sensational for the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL 2023-24 season, which helped him gain attention as Dubai Capitals signed him for ILT20. Delhi Capitals signed the Aussie opener for the IPL 2024 season as he smashed 259 runs in six matches at a phenomenal strike rate of 233.33.
"Jakey is an outstanding talent. I think you know the way he’s taking on the IPL, he’s taken it by storm, they’re all loving him, and certainly, the Delhi crew are enjoying his company and enjoying what he brings to the team, and there’s no doubt that he’s going to have a huge future, wherever he plays," Mitchell Marsh said.

Despite the consistent performance, the 22-year-old failed to make the cut in Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Skipper Marsh explained that the team management was happy with the regular opening duo of Travis Head and David Warner and didn’t consider making any change, which forced Fraser-McGurk to miss out. However, he lauded young Jake Fraser-McGurk, calling him an ‘outstanding talent’ and believes he will have a bright future.
"But we feel like we’ve got all bases covered within our team. Heady and David Warner have been fantastic for us, not only for a long period of time but over the last 18 months, building towards this (T20) World Cup. We’re really comfortable that we’ve got the right 15, to hopefully take us deep into the (T20) World Cup," Marsh added.
