Left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar was one of the positives for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their 4-wicket defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Monday, March 25, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Brar delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with remarkable figures of 4-0-13-2. He proved to be a significant threat for the RCB batting lineup, keeping the PBKS in the game. Brar's exceptional bowling skills were on full display as he first cleaned up Rajat Patidar and then took the crucial wicket of the dangerous Glenn Maxwell. Even Virat Kohli, who played a brilliant innings of 77 runs off 49 balls, seemed cautious while facing Brar's deliveries. Brar's contributions were commendable and played a vital role in keeping the PBKS in the game. Brar ensured the required run rate touched nearly 12 when RCB were chasing 177 to win the match.
Harpreet Brar Lays Out The Perfect Blueprint To Bowl At Chinnaswamy
During his incredible spell, Harpreet Brar revealed that his strategy was to apply pressure on the opposing batters by bowling as many dot balls as possible. He aimed to restrict the runs scored by the opposition team, and fortunately, he took two wickets with his plan. In the post-match press conference, Brar mentioned that he was focused on building pressure through dot balls while defending, as it increases the chances of taking wickets.
"I wanted to give as few runs as possible, and I am blessed that I got two wickets with that. When we were defending, I was looking to build pressure via dot balls, which gives you chances of picking up wickets," Brar told the reporters in the post-match press conference.
The 28-year-old Brar also spoke about the importance of bowling stump to stump on pitches that favour spin bowlers. He explained that while batting, he understood the nature of the Chinnaswamy surface. As a bowler, he took this information into account and adopted a stump-to-stump line to take advantage of the assistance provided by the wicket.
"When we batted, we got to know about the surface. And as a bowler, when the wicket is giving help, I bowled stump to stump line," he added.
Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh failed to carry on with the good work as Royal Challengers Bengaluru got home with 4 balls to spare. With the match in the balance in the last 2 overs, Dinesh Karthik's unbeaten knock of 28 saved the day for RCB. As far as the Punjab Kings are concerned, they will look to make amends against the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, March 30, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
