Three talking points from CSK vs DC IPL 2025 clash
Nothing is going the Chennai Super Kings’ way, at the moment. CSK fans would be disappointed to have witnessed their second loss at home, this season. Delhi Capitals outclassed them in all departments and registered their third consecutive win in IPL 2025. Axar Patel and Co. are now sitting at the top of the tally and are yet to lose a game, this season. This is some statement from the Capitals, who have been on a roll.
Riding on a masterclass knock from KL Rahul, the Capitals managed to amass a pretty good score of 183 for 6 in the first innings on a slow wicket. The bowlers also hit great lengths and didn’t allow the hosts to build a solid partnership. The visitors beat Chennai Super Kings by 25 runs in the end and, on that note, let’s take a look at three big talking points from the game.
Three talking points from CSK vs DC IPL 2025 clash:
- KL Rahul’s 77 off 51 powers Delhi Capital to 183
When KL Rahul is on song, you just want him to bat and bat more. And, that’s what he did today. The DC opener powered his team to a 183-run total with an excellent knock of 77 off 51 balls. Though, he was a little disappointed as he couldn't finish it well, but, overall, it was an innings to cherish. Spin is CSK’s biggest strength and KL Rahul didn't let their spinners get settled. He used his feet wonderfully and played the sweeps to perfection as well. That being said, he was equally good against pacers.

Despite the fall of Jake-Frazer early in the innings, Abhishek Porel (33) in the seventh over, and Axar Patel (14) in the eleventh over, KL Rahul ensured the runs kept coming at a good pace and DC didn’t lose momentum.
2. Delhi Capitals bowlers dent CSK’s top-order in the powerplay
A brilliant score in the first innings was followed with an excellent display of bowling from Delhi Capitals. 11 runs came off the first over but Mukesh Kumar sent Rachin Ravindra back to the hut in the second over of the innings. The slowness of the surface proved to be his undoing, getting out for just three runs. Chennai Super Kings needed their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad to step up with the bat. He showed great intent in the first over but Mitchell Starc’s pace was too good for him. A short of a length delivery at a good pace and Gaikwad guided that one straight into the hands of the man at deep backward square leg.

In the same over, he could have had Vijay Shankar leg before, however, DC didn't go for the review. Vipraj Nigam then sent Conway (13) back to the pavilion only to leave Chennai Super Kings reeling at 46 for three after six overs. Well, this is not the first time, CSK has lost the plot in the powerplay. It has been the case for them since the second game and they certainly need to come up with a better plan.
3. Poor batting performance costs CSK second loss at home in IPL 2025
Lack of power hitters in CSK’s middle order is a big issue for CSK, this season. And, with openers not getting the right starts, the five-time champions are struggling badly at the moment. After they had lost three wickets inside the powerplay, CSK needed to rebuild. However, the likes of Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Vijay Shankar, and MS Dhoni just couldn’t get going. Post the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja in the 11th over, there was no real intent shown by MS Dhoni and Vijay Shankar.
The latter was trying to shift gears but just couldn’t get his timing right. Dhoni and Shankar stayed right till the end and took the team to 158 but were still 25 runs short of the target. It’s now CSK’s second loss at home, this season- something which they are not familiar with.
