Three Talking Points from LSG vs CSK IPL 2025 clash
CSK needed this win so badly! They needed to win against Lucknow Super Giants in the 30th match of IPL 2025 on Monday to keep their hopes alive and bring some confidence in the team. It didn’t come easy but the Yellow Army managed to beat LSG by five wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. On the back of Rishabh Pant’s brilliant knock of 63 off 49 balls, LSG posted 166 runs in the first innings. CSK did well with the bat in the powerplay but LSG spinners choked the flow of runs in the middle overs.
Following the wicket of Vijay Shankar in the 15th over, CSK once again hoped for their five-time title-winning captain to see them through. MS Dhoni stayed there till the end and had the support of Shivam Dube, who was brilliant with the bat. The duo stitched a 50-plus run unbeaten partnership, helping CSK chase down 167 in 19.3 overs. There’s a lot to talk about from the game but for this article, let’s take a look at three major talking points.
Three Talking Points from LSG vs CSK IPL 2025 clash:
- Finally, a good powerplay from CSK
CSK made a change in their opening combination with Shaik Rasheed coming in place of Devon Conway. The 20-year-old showed his class in his debut game in IPL. Rasheed exihibited shades of Ruturaj Gaikwad in his batting. He didn't look someone, who is a big hitter but timed the ball to perfection. His timing was pristine in the six fours he hit during his 19-ball 27.
End of a decent knock on debut 👏

Rachin Ravindra, once again, got a good start as CSK made 59 for 1 in the powerplay- only the third time when they had scored more than 50 runs in the first six overs, this season. The kind of start Rachin Ravindra got, he should have converted that into a big score but this just hasn’t been his season to cherish. He departed after scoring 37 off 22.
2. MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube finish off in style
Chennai Super Kings were under the pump when Vijay Shankar departed in the 15th over. 56 runs were needed in 30 deliveries at that stage with MS Dhoni and Dube at the crease. MS Dhoni has been in the situation many times but let’s not forget he hasn’t been in the best of touches.

Nevertheless, the uncapped captain struck two back-to-back fours to Avesh in the 16th over followed by a six to Shardul in the next over. The 19th over from Shardul Thakur went for 19 runs, leaving the equation down to just 5 needed in the final over. Shivam Dube hit the boundary and finished the game off. Dhoni stayed unbeaten on 26 off 11, while Shivam Dube played an absolute gem of an innings, scoring 43 off 37.
The southpaw ensured he didn't play shots that had risk involved. He looked to hit most of the shots along the ground and in the gaps. Given that other middle-order batters weren’t in great form, Dube ensured he stayed right till the end and finished off the chase. This might not be a big score for him but this has to be one of his finest innings in the IPL.
3. Rishabh Pant not giving Ravi Bishnoi one more over
Ravi Bishnoi was nothing short of brilliant, today. He was quite accurate and bowled his lengths to perfection. He bowled three overs and took the important wickets of Ravindra Jadeja and Rahul Tripathi. MS Dhoni came to the crease at the end of the 15th over. It is no longer a secret that CSK skipper struggles against spin and Rishabh had the chance to give the ball to Ravi Bishnoi for the 16th over. Or maybe, he could have given him the 17th or 18th over, knowing how well he bowled in that game.
However, Rishabh trusted his pacers and the decision didn’t go in his favour. Perhaps, things could have been different had Ravi Bishnoi bowled one more over at the death.
