Three talking points from GT vs MI IPL 2025 match
Gujarat Titans got off the mark for the 2025 IPL season with an emphatic 36-run win over the five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Shubman Gillβs side made the most of home advantage with a clinical performance as Mumbai slumped to a second consecutive defeat. The hosts got another solid opening partnership between Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, with Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford chipping in with crucial cameos. Their bowlers too were a lot more disciplined this time around at the Narendra Modi Stadium, capping off an impressive performance against MI.
Here's a look at three talking points from GT vs MI IPL 2025 match:
1. Sai Sudharsan shines again
A few eyebrows were raised when Gujarat decided to retain Sai Sudharsan ahead of some of their foreign talents. The southpaw can sometimes play too slowly and take his time to get settled, however, he is proving his mettle this season for Gujarat Titans. Carrying on from the last game, Sudharsan scored another exquisite fifty, top scoring for GT in the first innings.

Sai Sudharsan now has scores of 65, 84, 103, 74, and 63 in his last five games played in Ahmedabad in the IPL. Occupying an important berth as an opener, Sai Sudharsan seems to be proving his worth this season in the Indian Premier League. Without taking too many risks, the southpaw scores at a solid strike rate and could be the youngster to watch out for this season.
2. Mumbaiβs uncapped players struggling
Over the years, Mumbai Indians scouts have unearthed some stellar talents, who have gone on to do big things for the franchise and India. MI are responsible for giving opportunities to Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah to name a few, with their eagle-eyed scouts gaining a positive reputation for their hard work.
This season, however, their uncapped players havenβt quite lived up to the billing yet. Satyanarayana Raju conceded 40 runs in his three overs today, getting only a consolation wicket at the death. Robin Minz, who came on as the impact sub managed to score only three runs, chewing up 6 balls in the process at a critical juncture of the game. It is still early days in the tournament, but if the uncapped players fail to deliver going forward as well, it could be a massive cause for concern.
3. Siraj and Prasidh find their feet

Mohammed Siraj came into the IPL with a point to prove, having been axed from the Indian ODI team and released by RCB. The pacer was taken apart in the opening game against Punjab but came back strong, today. He got the wicket of Rohit Sharma with a lovely inswinger that jagged back in a long way. Siraj followed that up with the wicket of Ryan Rickelton, who lost his stumps trying to attack the Indian pacer.
Another bowler who would have been facing the heat would have been Prasidh Krishna, who is trying to get himself back in the white ball setup for India. Krishna was taken apart in the previous game, conceding five boundaries in an over to Shashank Singh. The Karnataka pacer though fired back today with a superb bowling performance. Coming in to bowl at a crucial juncture, Krishna was on point with his pace off deliveries, making it tough for the batters to get him away. He got the crucial wickets of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, derailing the MI chase.
