Special performances from Jos Buttler and Prasidh Krishna helped Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets in a high-scoring encounter at Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday. The win has helped GT take the number one spot on the points tally with five wins in seven games. Led by Prasidh Krishna (4 for 41), the hosts managed to restrict Delhi Capitals to 203 in the first innings on a wicket that had little assistance for the bowlers. Jos Buttler produced a scintillating knock of 97 off 54 in the second innings, thereby, steering his team to a seven-wicket win.

Here’s a look at three major talking points from the GT vs DC IPL 2025 match:

  1. DC batters failed to stitch one big partnership

On a pitch that didn’t have much for the bowlers, the Delhi Capitals’ batting unit came out with a clear plan to bat aggressively. There wasn't a single player who looked to anchor the innings and play till the end. Delhi enjoyed their best powerplay with the bat this season- 73 for 2 after 6 overs. Ishan Porel and Karun Nair didn’t waste much time unleashing the fireworks. Porel departed after scoring 18 off 9 but KL Rahul ensured that his wicket didn’t hamper their run-rate.

KL Rahul’s timing was impeccable till the time he was there at the crease. He put on 35 off 18 with Nair for the second wicket before getting leg-before off Prasidh Krishna. KL Rahul (28 off 14) and Karun Nair (31 off 18) couldn't carry on despite getting a good start, courtesy of good bowling from Prasidh. Despite the fall of wickets, Delhi continued to follow the same template with Axar Patel (39), Tristan Stubbs (31), and Ashutosh Sharma (37) going hard at the bowlers. However, in doing so, wickets kept falling in regular intervals and DC fell short of batsmen who could finish well in the last few overs.

In the last two overs, DC only managed to score 15 runs.

2. Jos Buttler’s special steer GT to win

For Gujarat Titans to win the match, they needed a big knock and it came from their experienced campaigner Jos Buttler. The Englishman once again delivered when his team needed it the most. After Shubman Gill got run out early, Buttler paced his innings wonderfully.

Buttler didn't allow DC's in-form spinner Vipraj Nigam to get settled as he smacked him for three sixes to get his innings going. Winning the toss also proved crucial as Buttler had the target in sight and he paced his innings accordingly. He let Sudharsan be the aggressor and then put on a match-winning hundred-run partnership off just 56 balls with Sherfane Rutherford for the third wicket.

The game was in balance till the 14th over with GT needing 66 off the last six overs. Starc was then brought into the attack and Buttler tore him apart. He smacked five fours in five consecutive deliveries and turned the momentum completely in his team’s favour. His unbeaten 97 off 54 eventually helped his team chase down a 204-run target in just 19.2 overs.

3. Prasidh Krishna continues to be the shining light for GT

The two sixes that Ashutosh Sharma hit off Prasidh Krishna in his final over ruined the latter’s bowling figures of 4 for 41 in 4 overs, which was otherwise a sensational performance. There was no help for the bowlers on that pitch, however, the Indian pacer managed to not only be economical but take the crucial breakthroughs.

Shubman Gill brought Prasidh Krishna in the fifth over of the innings. He immediately made an impact by delivering a peach to send KL Rahul back, who was looking impeccable with the bat. Prasidh Krishna then claimed the important wicket of Karun Nair, not allowing Delhi to build a substantial partnership. The GT captain saved his one over and brought him back to bowl the 18th over of the innings. Delhi needed to finish well at that stage but the pacer ruined all their hopes.

He accounted for the wickets of Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam in consecutive balls and Delhi ended up scoring 15-20 runs less than what they would have scored.
