Three talking points from LSG vs DC IPL 2025 clash
Delhi Capitals did the double over the Lucknow Super Giants as Axar Patel’s team claimed a fairly comfortable win over their opponents at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. KL Rahul held the innings together on his return to the Ekana Stadium, this time with a different franchise, as Delhi picked up another two valuable points in their race towards the playoffs. The hosts were about 20 runs below par for tonight, and Delhi Capitals chased down the target with a couple of overs to spare.
Here are three talking points from tonight’s game between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals:
1. Lucknow’s middle-order mess
LSG have been a very top-heavy side this season. One of Mitch Marsh, Aiden Markram, or Nicholas Pooran have scored big. One of these three players has got a fifty in almost every game so far for Lucknow. While it is a massive positive to have the top order fit and firing, it is causing issues in other parts of the batting line-up.
Since the top order has been doing the bulk of the scoring, their middle order hasn’t been tested much and is often found wanting. In today’s game, LSG were 99/1 after 11 overs but ended with a meek total of 159 runs. Their middle order of Miller, Samad, Pant, and Badoni are yet to fire this season, and that could be a cause for concern for this franchise going forward.
2. Point to prove season for KL Rahul
KL Rahul has come out with a vengeance this season in the IPL. He has very clearly remodeled his game to fit in with the modern brand of T20 cricket. KL Rahul earlier spoke often about taking the game deep and taking his time in matches, but this time around his boundary percentage has risen massively while the dot ball ratio has reduced. This is the closest we have got to the 2018 fearless version of KL Rahul, and Delhi are reaping the rewards of his fine vein of form.

This IPL season also is a point to prove kind of IPL for KL Rahul. He is trying to find a route back to India’s T20 side, and for that reason has demoted himself to the middle-order and donned the gloves since that’s the most available spot up for grabs in the Indian setup. KL Rahul was the match-winner against Bangalore - a franchise that gave him his T20 debut but didn’t retain him beyond 2016, and now he’s done it again against LSG - a franchise that let him go ahead of the mega auctions.
3. DC hitting the right notes
Delhi Capitals are proof that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Everybody in their team seems to be performing, and they are getting a tune out of all their players. Today, Mukesh Kumar picked a four-fer, after having a largely underwhelming season thus far. A couple of matches prior, Mitch Starc nailed 11 out of 12 yorkers to give DC a famous Super Over win over Rajasthan Royals.

Delhi has also got big performances out of their uncapped players like Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam. Karun Nair chimed in with a superb knock on his season debut, while Abhishek Porel got in his first fifty of the season as well today. This DC team seems to be peaking at the right time.
