Punjab Kings returned to winning ways with a morale-boosting win over CSK by 18 runs in the Indian Premier League 2025 on Tuesday. Coach Ricky Ponting, though, wouldn't be too pleased with his team’s effort on the field. Nevertheless, they took home two points and continued their solid run in the competition. Punjab, once again, posted a formidable total on the scoreboard and, this time around, it was young Priyansh Arya, who stole the limelight with his maiden IPL century.

Courtesy of his special knock, the Kings posted 219 for six in 20 overs. Chasing a big target, CSK made a positive start in the powerplay but couldn't keep up with the asking rate.  They fought hard till the end but fell short by 12 runs.

Here’s a look at three talking points from the CSK vs PBKS IPL 2025 clash:

2. Priyansh Arya powers Punjab Kings to a formidable score of 219 runs on the board

Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya left everyone speechless with his masterclass display of batting against Chennai Super Kings at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Tuesday. Striking at close to 250, Priyansh played a phenomenal knock of 103 runs in just 42 deliveries. He smashed seven fours and as many as nine sixes during his stay at the crease.

Despite wickets falling at the other end, Priyansh kept hitting boundaries for fun. Be it spinners or pacers, he spared no one, reaching his half-century off just 19 deliveries. Punjab Kings kept losing wickets in small intervals but the 24-year-old ensured that runs kept coming at quick pace.

The likes of Prabhsimran (0), Shreyas Iyer (9), Stoinis (4), Nehal Wadhera (9), and Maxwell (1) got out on single-digit scores. They had managed to score inside 83 in eight overs but lost five wickets as well. CSK were dominating the proceedings but Punjab shifted the momentum, thereafter. Shashank Singh joined hands with Priyansh and destruction began from both ends.

Priyansh Arya kept hitting boundaries for fun and went on to smash a century off just 39 balls- the fastest century by an uncapped Indian batter. Noor Ahmed, eventually, dismissed him on 103 in the 14th over but Shashank and Marco Jansen took the team to a formidable score of 219. Shashank Singh played an unbeaten knock of 52 runs in 36 balls, including two fours and three sixes, while Marco Jansen too made a valuable contribution of 39 off 19 deliveries.

2. CSK fail to up the ante in middle overs

For the first time this season, Chennai Super Kings didn't lose a single wicket in the powerplay. Chasing a massive total on the board, they scored 59 runs for no loss at the end of the first six overs. However, just when they needed to up the ante, they lost two crucial wickets in the form of Rachin Ravindra and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. Rachin looked good for his 36 off 23 but couldn’t carry on, while Gaikwad (1), once again, got out cheaply.

Shivam Dube came in at number four and fought hard with the bat. He looked to turn the momentum but Conway just couldn’t switch gears at the other end. By the end of 13 overs, the asking rate was almost at 15 per over and Conway, at that stage, was striking at just 125.

Ferguson eventually got the wicket of Dube in the 16th over and gave just seven runs in that over. It was followed with a 9-run over from Yuzvendra Chahal and the pressure piled up on CSK. Dhoni hit some lusty blows in the end but it was never going to be enough.

3. Chennai Super Kings suffer fourth consecutive loss in IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings’ misery continued in the Indian Premier League 2025 as they succumbed to their fourth consecutive loss. Since winning their first game of the season against Mumbai Indians, the Chennai Super Kings have now lost four games in a row.

It has been a forgettable season for the Yellow Army and they need to play their skins out to inspire a turnaround from here. That being said, all is not lost just yet and the batters are getting runs under their belt, which they should look at as a positive.

CSK find themselves at second from the bottom of the table with four losses in five games. On the other hand, the Punjab Kings have climbed to fourth spot with three wins in four games.
