The headlines were stolen by 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi on Monday night at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium as he scored an iconic century to keep Rajasthan Royals alive in IPL 2025. The hosts chased down a daunting-looking target of 210 on a canter, as Suryavanshi and Jaiswal stole the show against a toothless-looking GT bowling attack.

The result makes things interesting in the points table as it ensures Rajasthan Royals stay alive in the 2025 Indian Premier League. It also ensures that Gujarat don’t get too much of a lead towards the top of the table. It was a classic contest on Monday night in Jaipur, and here are three talking points from that game.

Three talking points from RR vs GT IPL 2025 clash:

1. All hail Vaibhav Suryavanshi

The Rajasthan Royals management were scoffed about when they decided to splash the cash for then 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi at the auction. Many would have considered it to be merely an investment for the future since it seemed unlikely that RR would expose someone that young to the rigours of the IPL.

However, the youngster and the franchise have proved everyone wrong with a stellar start to life in the IPL. He had an impressive debut where he scored 34, and today did a whole not better with a spellbinding century. Suryavanshi took down Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar, and Prasidh Krishna, unfazed by the level of bowling he was up against. He smashed Afghanistan’s Karim Janat for 30 runs in an over, thereby, getting to his century off just 35 balls. Suryavanshi couldn’t quite stay till the end, but he did enough to ensure a comfortable win.

2. The Sai Sudarshan-Gill show continues

In all their games this season, one of the Gujarat top three has scored a fifty. Generally, it has been one or both the openers, namely Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Both Indian batters have been in stellar form this season, giving their side strong starts that have helped them position towards the top of the table.

Today, both batters combined yet again for a big opening partnership, as they amassed 93 runs for the first wicket. Gill and Sai Sudharsan seem to be complimenting each other quite well, attacking batters in turns and their left-right combination makes things difficult for the bowling side. In today’s game, Sai Sudharsan was dismissed after scoring 39, but Gill carried on to score a superb 84 off just 50 balls. It needed a freak knock from Vaibhav Suryavanshi to deny the visitors a win, or GT were looking good to climb back towards the top of the table.

3. No finishing troubles for RR

Rajasthan Royals have finished on the wrong side of a few close contests this season. In the games against Lucknow and Delhi, they made solid starts to the chase but messed things up towards the death. In the games against LSG and Delhi, Rajasthan failed to chase 9 runs off the final over.

This time around though the opening stand between Jaiswal and Suryavanshi ensured that Rajasthan wouldn’t have any finishing troubles. They did lose a couple of wickets later on, but the asking rate was already under six at that point and it meant that Rajasthan never really felt any pressure. The result would give Rahul Dravid’s side some much-needed confidence, as they now enter a phase where they need to pretty much win all their games to make it through to the playoffs.
