Three turning points in the DC vs MI IPL 2025 match
Two players, playing their maiden game of the season, top-performed for their respective teams in the DC vs MI IPL 2025 match. On the back of an injury to Faf du Plessis, a chance cropped up for Karun Nair to join the DC Playing XI as an impact sub. The chance, asked by Karun Nair from 'cricket' in front of the world, when it arrived, Nair made sure to make the most of it. However, his charge for DC in the chase fell short as Mumbai Indians became the first team to beat Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. The hosts lost the game to their nerves, with a hat-trick of run outs in the penultimate over doing it for Mumbai. MI, with their second win of the season, have charted up to the seventh spot on the IPL points table.

Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav provide a fiery start to MI as Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir ensure an ideal finish
Winning the toss at Delhi's home ground, Axar Patel opted to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton provided a blazing start to the team as Mitchell Starc fumbled to find his rhythm early in the game. Rohit, however, departed after hitting a six off Starc, repeating the painful pattern of heading back to the dugout early. Rickelton, meanwhile, continued his assault, rushing off to 41 off 25, with Suryakumar Yadav looking similarly fiery at the other end. Rickelton's charge, added with SKY's assault, resulted in MI scoring 59 in the powerplay.
Kuldeep Yadav came in to pull things back for DC, dismissing Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession following the powerplay. However, Tilak Varma survived multiple dismissal threats to propel MI's total past the 200-run mark. The young middle-order batter smashed 59 off 33 as the DC fielders juggled Varma out of their grasp in the field. While Vipraj Nigam trapped Hardik Pandya quickly, Naman Dhir played the perfect partner to Tilak's rhythm, coming up with a quickfire 38 off 17 as MI managed a 205-run total despite the middle-over threat posed by Kuldeep Yadav.

The chase started perfectly for MI as Deepak Chahar dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk on the very first ball of the innings. However, the early breakthrough was buried quickly as Karun Nair took the ground. DC called in Nair as an impact sub. The impact that the Karnataka pick made would be counted among the best of this season. Nair took on Jasprit Bumrah, hitting him for over 20 runs in 2 overs. On the back of a blazing domestic season, the seasoned batter roared his ability to charge in the shorter format as finely as he does in Tests. Delhi's arena witnessed Nair hitting the MI bowlers all around, getting to a 22-ball fifty with two sixes and eight fours. The batter further continued his aggressive knock as DC's second-wicket partnership between Nair and Abishek Porel rushed off to a 119-run stand.
A series of run outs does it for Mumbai Indians as Delhi Capitals fail to nerves
The much-awaited breakthrough arrived at the hands of Mitchell Santner, who bowled Nair out at 89 off 40. Meanwhile, MI's impact sub proved as impactful as DC's, claiming the game out of DC's grasp. Karn Sharma starred with a three-wicket haul for MI, while Santner picked two. However, the first defeat of the season for DC arrived riding on their nerves only. Despite Karn Sharma's spell and Santner's spin web, DC had a chaseable task at hand with Ashutosh Sharma at the pitch. However, a series of run outs, three in the penultimate over, bowled by Bumrah, eventually scripted their defeat in their own backyard. MI has earned the much-needed revival in the season, as no team now remains unbeaten in the ongoing IPL season.
