Three turning points in the RR vs LSG IPL 2025 match
Riyan Parag, the interim captain of RR, had no words to offer when asked about where the match went wrong. It was the disappointment of losing the match in the last over, in a matter of a few deliveries at the last, which weighed Parag down. Rajasthan Royals seem to be still learning the skill of holding their nerves in crucial moments. 9 required off the last 6, the same equation from their last fixture, the DC vs RR match cropped up in the RR vs LSG IPL 2025 match at home.
While the former involved a Super Over, the Royals fell on the wrong side of the results in both the matches. A good start in the chase, a rather impressive run with the ball, barring the last over in the first innings, there was a rare chance for RR to bottle this up. However, the team still found the chance to fumble it as Avesh Khan successfully defended 3 runs off the last ball in Jaipur to hand two crucial points to Lucknow Super Giants.

Markram, Badoni put up gritty fight against RR's sublime bowling attack, Abdul Samad provides a fiery finish
Rajasthan Royals looked in contention for the victory right from the start as they removed the hard-hitting Nicholas Pooran early in the game. Rishabh Pant continued his dry run as Wanindu Hasaranga removed the LSG skipper at just 3 off 9 after Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma sent Pooran and Mitchell Marsh back. However, Aiden Markram stayed from the top order to fight back against the RR bowlers as Ayush Badoni offered support from the other end.
Though a bit patiently, the duo kept the runs flowing as they provided a strong base to the LSG total with their respective half-centuries. To add to the fight, Abdul Samad launched a fierce attack at the death, taking on Sandeep Sharma. While David Miller stood silently at the other end, Samad launched four sixes in the last over as the total, which seemed stuck in the 160s at one point, propelled to a fighting 180.

Despite the onslaught by Samad at the death, 180 was not too steep a hill for the home team to climb. The matters were made drastically easy as the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi noted an ideal IPL debut. The youngest-ever debutant in league history, Vaibhav launched a towering six off Shardul Thakur at the maiden ball of his IPL career.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, at the other end, showcased his brilliance as Rajasthan Royals spent the powerplay without losing any wickets. Suryavanshi, playing as the replacement for an injured Sanju Samson, welcomed Avesh Khan into the attack with another sixer. The fiery start to the chase saw RR scoring 61 in the powerplay itself. The opening stand extended to 85 until Vaibhav was stumped out by Rishabh Pant off a minute imbalance in the 9th over as the debutant walked off at a score of 34 off 20.
Jaiswal's dismissal triggers a collapse before Avesh Khan defends 9 off 6 in a sensational death bowling display
The chase looked done in the powerplay itself as Yashasvi Jaiswal hit form. RR lost Nitish Rana cheaply, but with Jaiswal in charge, the victory looked in sight. However, a turnaround was triggered when Avesh Khan hit the timber behind Jaiswal to dismiss the opener at 74 off 52 in the 18th over. 25 needed off 17 balls with the likes of Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, and Dhruv Jurel remaining in the order. The match still looked in the RR court. However, Parag walked off in the same over as Avesh Khan spilled just 5 runs and dismissed two set batters in the 18th over.
Tides changed from there. Hetmyer found two boundaries in the penultimate over against Prince Yadav. However, RR was stuck in the same equation as their last fixture with 9 required off the last 6. LSG, with Avesh Khan at the fore, looked in no mood to extend the matters up to a Super Over like Delhi Capitals. After surviving a run-out, Hetmyer walked off at a catch-out dismissal at the third ball of the last over. Dhruv Jurel and Shubham Dubey lost to their nerves as Avesh Khan put up an exemplary case of death bowling. The victory, clinched from the jaws of defeat, has placed Lucknow Super Giants among the Top 4 at the IPL 2025 points table. Rajasthan Royals stay put at the 8th spot as their campaign hangs by a thread with just two wins in eight matches at the league stage.
