The first-ever 2024 edition of the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) has definitely risen to all the expectations and drama that the cricket fanatics needed. There have been some stunning performances throughout the entire T20 tournament both in the batting as well as bowling departments. However, looking at the statistics and the scoresheets, the bowlers have dominated this inaugural MPL 2024 season to a great extent. In cricket there is a saying that states, it is the bowlers who win you tournaments and the Jabalpur Lions have been adjudged as the MPL 2024 winners on the back of some superb bowling performances throughout this tournament. Thus, in this blog piece, we take a look at the top five bowlers with most wickets in MPL 2024. 

5 Best bowlers in MPL 2024

1. Shivam Shukla (Rewa Jaguars)

While playing for the Rewa Jaguars, Shivam Shukla is at the top of the list with most number of wickets in the Madhya Pradesh League 2024. The spinner has bowled excellently well in this competition having picked up as many as 10 wickets from 4 games at an average of 11.1. He has also picked up an impressive five-wicket haul. Shivam has bowled a total of 16 overs with a superb economy rate of below 7. 

2. Tripuresh Singh (Jabalpur Lions)

For the Jabalpur Lions, it was Tripuresh Singh who came out on the top during the most important game of this Madhya Pradesh League 2024, the final against Bhopal Leopards. While defending a mammoth total of 249 runs, he ended up taking as many as three vital wickets in his 3.4 overs which also eventually proved to be the difference between the two sides. With this smashing performance, Tripuresh finished at the second position in the list of leading wicket-takers during the MPL 2024 season. He scalped a total of 9 wickets from 5 matches at a fine economy rate of 8.30. He had an average of 14.44 that included best figures of 3 for 40 in the finale. 

3. Kamal Tripathi (Bhopal Leopards)

Bhopal Leopards’ off-spinner Kamal Tripathi is placed at the third spot in the list of leading wicket-takers so far in this MPL 2024. The off-spinner has taken a total of 9 wickets in 6 matches that includes a staggering five-wicket haul as well. Kamal has had a brilliant average of 15.5 and an economy of 8.78 in this T20 competition. He has also represented the Madhya Pradesh state cricket team in the shortest format of the game. However, Kamal Tripathi did not had the best of starts to his domestic career having taken 7 wickets from 6 games at an economy of 7.10. 

4. Ankit Singh Kushwah (Gwalior Cheetahs)

The Gwalior Cheetahs were surely fortunate to have the services of Ankit Singh Kushwah in this edition of Madhya Pradesh League T20 as he was exceptional with the ball. The right-arm pacer occupies the fourth position in the list of highest wicket-takers having scalped as many as 8 wickets from only 3 games at an average of below 15. However, he did not have the best of economy rates because he bowled the difficult overs in this entire T20 competition. Ankit made his domestic debut for Madhya Pradesh state cricket team in October 2022 and he has played all the three formats of the game. 

5. Puneet Datey (Jabalpur Lions)

While representing the Jabalpur Lions, right-arm medium pacer Puneet Datey has performed really well as he is slotted at the fifth position with most number of wickets in MPL 2024. The paceman has picked up a total of 8 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 16.13. Puneet has had the best figures of 3 for 19 in this tournament and has played a crucial role in the success of Jabalpur Lions during this inaugural season of Madhya Pradesh League. However, he failed to pick up a single wicket in the final against Bhopal Leopards having conceded 19 runs in his two overs. 

The Gwalior Cheetahs were knocked out of this Madhya Pradesh League T20 2024 season after they lost the Eliminator at the hands of Bhopal Leopards by a margin of 3 runs. However, left-arm spinner Parth Sahani was amongst the wickets as he is placed at the seventh spot in the list of leading wicket-takers in the competition. Parth has managed to scalp as many as 7 wickets from 5 matches at an average of only 7.29. He has had a fantastic economy of less than 7 which includes best figures of 4 for 7 in this T20 tournament. Bhopal Leopards' Priyanshu Shukla is occupying the sixth slot in the table with as many as 8 wickets to his name in 5 games that includes a best of 3 for 20. However, he failed to deliver in the final for his team with the ball, picking just one wicket and ended up leaking 54 runs in his quota of four overs.
