Its redemption time in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season as the two wounded sides, the Gujarat Titans (GT) will be crossing the swords against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on 29 March, 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Interestingly, both these teams will be very much hungry to make a winning comeback after having suffered poor defeats in their respective previous matches this season. The Mumbai Indians continued their habit of losing the IPL season opener as they suffered a poor 4-wicket defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) while Gujarat Titans had a bad start losing against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last match.

GT vs MI head-to-head battle

Since their introduction from the Indian Premier League 2022 season, the Gujarat Titans managed to win the trophy in the first year itself and then finished as the runners-up in IPL 2023. On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians have a rich legacy in the IPL history having won as many as five titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 under the captaincy of Mumbai Indians. While talking about the head-to-head battle between these two teams in the IPL history so far, Gujarat Titans are ahead with a total of three victories while Mumbai Indians are also not far behind with a couple of wins. During the IPL 2024 match, the Gujarat Titans got the better of Mumbai Indians by 6 runs.

3 player battles to watch out for in the GT vs MI IPL 2025 match

1. Jos Buttler vs Hardik Pandya

While playing his debut game for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, England's senior wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler smacked an impressive knock of 54 runs off 33 deliveries that included 4 fours and 2 sixes. However, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has had the upper hand over the English cricketer. Incidentally, Pandya has dismissed Buttler a total of five times in the last few editions of the IPL and the latter has a poor strike-rate of 108.55. In 28 innings, the swashbuckling GT batter has scored 254 runs against the right-arm speedster. Thus, the MI captain will definitely take the ball in hand when Jos Buttler comes to the crease during the GT vs MI IPL 2025 match starting on Saturday.

2. Suryakumar Yadav vs Kagiso Rabada

Mumbai Indians stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 29 runs off 26 deliveries before getting dismissed by Noor Ahmed in the last game against Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, in his opening game for the Gujarat Titans, South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada picked up just a single wicket and conceded a total of 41 runs from his quota of four overs against Punjab Kings. But, Rabada has had the edge over Suryakumar in the Indian Premier League history so far. The GT captain has dismissed MI's premier batter as many as five times. In the 13 innings faced against Kagiso Rabada, Suryakumar Yadav has managed to score just 129 runs, however, the right-hander has a remarkable strike-rate of more than 176.

3. Shubman Gill vs Mitchell Santner

Just before the start of IPL 2025 season, Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill talked a lot about the intent of their batting and their low strike-rates during the last season. The GT captain started the improvement from himself first having smashed an explosive cameo of 33 runs off only 14 deliveries that consisted of 3 sixes and 2 fours in the opening match against Punjab Kings. However, he will have to beware of Mumbai Indians' premier left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner in the upcoming game. Incidentally, Santner has the upper hand in the face-off against Gill having dismissed him thrice in the cash-rich premier league. In 17 innings, the right-handed opening batter has notched up 202 runs at a strike-rate of 104.66.
