Team India is all geared up to face co-hosts United States of America (USA) in the 25th encounter of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 taking place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on 12 June, 2024. Incidentally, both these teams have faced quite similar fortunes in this edition of the mega event. This will be the third game in this T20I tournament for the United States team after having registered two amazing back-to-back victories over Canada and Pakistan. On the other hand, the Men in Blue have also won both of their matches in this competition as they defeated Ireland and arch-rivals Pakistan. This will be the first time when both these teams will face each other in a T20I match.
Interestingly, United States have been in a really impressive form off late in the shortest format of the game. USA have managed to win 4 out of their last 5 T20I matches recently that includes victories against Bangladesh, Canada and Pakistan. The United States batters have shown great intent in both of their matches in this 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The likes of skipper Monank Patel, Andries Gous and Aaron Jones have batted really well showing impressive temperament and confidence at this stage of the game. They also have Corey Anderson, Nitish Kumar and Harmeet Singh who can hit some lusty blows towards the back end of the match. The trio of Saurabh Netravalkar, Nosthush Kenjige and Ali Khan will have to play a key role in the bowling department.
In case, USA manages to surprise India in this game then they will successfully qualify for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, the co-hosts do have a chance to go through even if they lose against India. The United States team will then have to depend on the rest of results in the Group A. USA are scheduled to face Ireland in their final match during this opening round on 14 June in Florida.
On the other hand, Team India will surely be feeling very much relieved after that sensational 6-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in a nail-biting finish. The Rohit Sharma-led side have played both of their first two games against Ireland and Pakistan on tricky pitches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Barring Rohit's half-century against Ireland and Rishabh Pant's aggressive batting, all of the other Indian batters have not looked in the best of forms during these two games of the mega event. Despite not coming good as a pair, the team management is expected to once again back the senior duo of Rohit and Virat Kohli as the two openers in this game against USA as well.
However, the Indian team might consider making a slight change in their batting line-up as they can include swashbuckling batsman Sanju Samson in place of Shivam Dube who has looked out of sorts, in all the three outings (including a warm-up fixture against Bangladesh). Samson has the ability to play as a floater in the middle-order.
