Indian politicians are notoriously famous for making over-the-top remarks time and again. One such remark came on Saturday from the infamous leader of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav. Very few cricket fans might know that before entering Bihar politics, Tejashwi enjoyed a substantial career in the game. The son of former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav, Tejashwi played for Jharkhand in domestic cricket. However, that chapter is now in the past, as Indian cricket and Tejashwi moved in different directions. Yet, it seems the politician has not forgotten his stint in the sport, as he mentioned it in his latest interaction. In a recent interview, Tejashwi claimed that Virat Kohli once played under his captaincy in domestic cricket.

"Virat Kohli played under my captaincy," says Politician Tejashwi Yadav

During his latest interview, Tejashwi talked about his playing career in cricket. A well-known political figure from Bihar now, Yadav expressed regret that his cricketing career has been largely overlooked. Tejashwi appeared rueful as he stated that a seven-match stint and an IPL selection is no feat to be forgotten. He then went on to assert that he had shared the field with several current Indian players, including former captain Virat Kohli.

"I was a cricketer and no one talks about it. Virat Kohli played in my captaincy -did anyone ever talk about it? Why don't they do so? As a professional, I played a good cricket. Many Team India players are my batchmates. I had to quit as my both ligaments were fractured. Let it be," he said during the interview.

His interview, filled with exaggerated claims, has gone viral on the internet, with netizens treating it as the latest laughingstock on social media. While Tejashwi's assertion of leading Virat Kohli remains a mystery to be solved, the politician did earn a spot in the IPL. Tejashwi’s cricketing career includes one First-Class match, two List A games, and four T20s for Jharkhand, during which he scored 37 runs and took one wicket.

His professional debut came in 2009 in a T20 match against Tripura, with his final appearance being in February 2010 in a List A game against the same team. The 34-year-old leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal was also part of the Delhi Daredevils squad during the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and remained with the franchise until 2012, although he never played a match.
