The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to kick off on October 3 in the United Arab Emirates, marking a significant moment for the India women's cricket team, which has yet to win this prestigious tournament. They came agonizingly close in the 2020 edition, ultimately falling to Australia in the final. As this marks the ninth edition of the tournament, expectations are high for the team to make a strong push for the title. Former India cricketer VVS Laxman, who currently serves as the Head of the BCCI Centre of Excellence, has emphasized the heightened intensity with which the players are preparing for this marquee event. He hosted the Indian women’s team at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where they focused on both physical and mental conditioning. Recognizing the importance of comprehensive preparation, the players engaged in rigorous fitness training alongside sessions with sports psychologist Mughda Bawre, aimed at enhancing their mental resilience.

Laxman noted that the commitment and dedication displayed by the players are evident as they leave no stone unturned in their quest to secure the coveted title. With such focused preparations, the team is determined to not only improve on past performances but also to create a new chapter in Indian women’s cricket history. As they gear up for the tournament, the players are ready to showcase their skills and determination on the global stage.

“The kind of commitment, dedication, and intensity with which they practice and prepare is unmatched. I am very proud of the way they prepare. It was a productive camp and (women’s team head coach) Amol (Muzumdar) had planned in such a manner that in the first phase of the camp he focused on the mental and physical aspects of the game,” said VVS Laxman in a recent interview.

“Then there was a break and when they came back, they focused on the skill and the tactical aspect of the game. It was not only restricted to nets but they also played five matches where Amol created different situations, different kinds of challenges for the players,” he added.

The India women's cricket team will kick off their campaign in the Women’s T20 World Cup with their opening match against New Zealand on October 4. Positioned in Group A, India faces a formidable challenge, as they share the group with six-time champions Australia, alongside Pakistan and Sri Lanka. This group promises to be highly competitive, with Australia bringing a wealth of experience and success in women's cricket, making them one of the toughest opponents. India's match against New Zealand will be crucial in setting the tone for their tournament, as the team aims to make a strong impression from the very beginning.

As they prepare for this important fixture, the players are focused on executing their game plan and showcasing their skills on the international stage. With the combination of seasoned players and emerging talents, the team is determined to make a significant impact in the tournament. The anticipation surrounding this match is palpable, as fans hope to see India build momentum and aim for success in their quest for their first T20 World Cup title. The players are ready to rise to the occasion and demonstrate their commitment to achieving this goal.
