Following the BCCI's announcement of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, Rinku Singh's father, Khanchandra Singh, has expressed disappointment in his son being selected on the reserve list. While speaking to the media, Khanchandra Singh shared that Rinku's initial disappointment was understandable, but he remains determined to contribute to the team in every way possible. In one of the biggest shocking news from the Indian team announced for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, the swashbuckling batter Rinku Singh is part of the travelling reserves and is not part of the main India squad. The star finisher has been a proven performer for India lower down the order, having finished matches consistently. In his short international career so far, Rinku has smashed an impressive 356 runs from 15 T20I matches at a remarkable strike rate of more than 176 with as many as two half-centuries.

Rinku Singh's father disappointed after son's T20 World Cup snub

Rinku Singh's father, Khanchandra Singh, was heartbroken after his son wasn't picked in India's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. He revealed how the family had planned to celebrate his selection, but it was spoiled after the southpaw was named only among the reserves. Rinku's father said that he had brought sweets and crackers to celebrate his son's selection. However, he was shocked when he heard that his son didn't find a place in the side. The three other reserves named were Shubman Gill, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.

"Ummedein to bohot thi, hum mithai, patakhe laye they, socha tha wo 11 main khelega. Isliye thoda dukh bhi hai [We had hopes and brought sweets and crackers to celebrate his selection. We felt that he would get a chance in the playing XI during the tournament. That is why we are a little disappointed]," Khanchandra said in an interview.

According to the sources, Rinku Singh has been ignored from the 15-man squad due to his inconsistent performances in the IPL 2024 season, scoring just 123 runs from 9 games. However, it is also a fact that the 26-year-old batter has not got that many opportunities as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) top-order has done the bulk of the run-scoring. When asked if Rinku had a word with him, Khanchandra revealed that the star India finisher was heartbroken after the announcement, and he informed his mother that he wasn't named in the squad.

"Uska dil tuta hai, usne apni maa se baat ki aur bataya ki uska naam nahi hai [His heart is broken, he spoke to his mother and informed her that his name wasn't announced]," Khanchandra added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member India T20 squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. Other major names in the squad include Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shivam Dube, while Rinku Singh misses out as he is on the reserves list. India are also part of Group A along with Pakistan and Ireland. The Men in Blue will begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 5.
