Yuzvendra Chahal has made the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup, which will start next month in the USA and West Indies after the Indian Premier League( IPL) 2024. It is the first time the right-arm leg spinner will be part of the Men in Blue team in a T20 World Cup. Chahal has been part of the Indian team since 2016, where he has played in 72 One Day International and 80 T20Is, having 121 and 69 wickets with an economy of 5 and 8.19 each. The 33-year-old has performed brilliantly in the IPL 2024 from a Rajasthan-based franchise by being the highest wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals. He has picked 13 wickets in 9 games with an efficient economy of 9.
Chahal has recently become India's highest T20I wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League and he is also the second-highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets in the tournament after India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. It is one of the reasons that the star leg spinner has been picked up in the T20 World Cup squad.
Yuzvendra Chahal has received his maiden call-up for the Indian team in an ICC event after playing for the Indian team since 2016. The Rajasthan Royals leg spinner was excluded from the previous 2023 Men's Cricket World Cup after performing well in the IPL 2023. The Indian selectors and captain have gone with the experience of Rohit Sharma, who got a chance to play in 1 the opening game. However, selectors have gone with Chahal after seeing his current form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
