Who is Ayush Mhatre in the MI vs CSK IPL 2025 match? Know all about the CSK youngster
While the ongoing season hasn't gone exceptionally well for either team, the Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings clash remains one of the biggest rivalries in the IPL. It's now time for the second chapter of this year's "El Clasico" to take center stage in IPL 2025. The win in the CSK vs MI season opener remains one of only two victories for Chennai so far. MI, meanwhile, are in relatively better form, having secured wins in their last two fixtures. Currently placed at the bottom of the points table, CSK are still searching for the right combination to turn their season around. For the MI vs CSK IPL 2025 match, the team led by MS Dhoni has included young Ayush Mhatre in the Playing XI.

The 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre joined the Chennai Super Kings squad as an injury replacement for skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. With a fractured elbow ruling Gaikwad out for the remainder of IPL 2025, MS Dhoni has reclaimed the team's captaincy. Meanwhile, the management brought the young Mumbai player into the squad. Though still early in his career, Ayush Mhatre has already built an impressive resume in domestic cricket for Mumbai. The MI vs CSK IPL 2025 match now brings Mhatre to his home ground, the Wankhede Stadium, as he replaces Rahul Tripathi in the CSK Playing XI.
Ayush Mhatre stats in domestic cricket
Earlier this year, Ayush Mhatre smashed a 150 for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The mammoth knock made him the youngest-ever player to score 150 runs in a List A match. The youngster made his first-class debut in October last year as part of the Mumbai squad for the Irani Cup. He went on to make his List A debut in December the same year, taking guard against Karnataka. Mhatre scored a half-century on his Vijay Hazare debut and has since gone on to notch up two centuries in List A cricket, a record-breaking 181 against Nagaland and a 148-run knock against Saurashtra.
