Who Is Sanjay Krishnamurthi? The 21-year-old San Francisco Unicorns batter who scored 79* in MLC 2024

Sanjay Krishnamurthi was born in Corvallis, Oregon. His father, a cricket fan, was willing to move back to his native Bengaluru for the sake of his 7-year-old son, who was starstruck by India's 2011 World Cup win. Sanjay's father helped him follow his dreams by moving the family to Bengaluru. Sanjay made massive strides in Bengaluru school cricket and eventually went on to represent Karnataka U16s as an opening batter and frontline left-arm spinner. He was also a finalist at Spin Stars, a talent hunt contest launched by Anil Kumble.

After failing to achieve success in India, Sanjay returned to his home country, where cricket gained popularity in America after 2020. The 21-year-old signed a rookie contract with the San Francisco Unicorns after delivering exceptional all-around performances for the East Bay Blazers in the Minor League over 2 seasons. Smashing runs with a batting average of over 145 on a sticky California pitch, in addition to maintaining an economy of under 6 over 3 years, demonstrates his consistency and composure as an all-rounder at a young age. He spent last season on the bench but gained valuable experience in the Unicorns nets, developing his power game and crediting head coach Shane Watson.
