The ongoing edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has definitely come a long way in a short span of time and we are just three matches away from crowning the winners. After witnessing a total of 52 league stage exciting matches, the likes of South Africa, Afghanistan, India and England have qualified for the semi-finals. During the first semi-final of this mega event, the South African team will be locking horns with Afghanistan on 27 June, 2024 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. On the other hand, it will be a repeat of the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final at the other side as India will be facing defending champions England scheduled to be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on 27 June, 2024.

Who has the best chance to win ICC T20 World Cup 2024?

Interestingly, South Africa or Afghanistan are very much close to register their name in the cricket history books as the winner of the first semi-final clash will be qualifying for their first-ever T20 World Cup final. Without much of doubt, all of the four teams, India, South Africa, Afghanistan and England, qualified in the knockouts have a really good chance to win this T20I tournament. India were the winners of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 while England have twice been the champions in 2010 and 2022. In case either of South Africa or Afghanistan manage to clinch the T20 World Cup 2024 title, they will be winning their first-ever ICC trophy.

While talking about South Africa's campaign in this competition so far, the Aiden Markram-led team have come out unbeaten so far in the league stage. However, the Proteas have witnessed a lot of nail-biting contests already in this tournament after they defeated Nepal by a margin of 1 run and got the better of Bangladesh by 4 runs. However, they have performed really well in a collective manner both in the batting as well as bowling departments. South Africa's premier opening batsman Quinton de Kock has played an attacking brand of cricket especially in the first six overs of the powerplay and has smashed a total of 199 runs from 7 games that includes a couple of half-centuries. On the other hand, the pace duo of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada have picked up as many as 21 wickets between them. They definitely have a great opportunity to defy the odds this time and win their first-ever

Afghanistan have once again punched above their weights so far in the T20 World Cup 2024 especially after having registered two sensational back-to-back victories against Australia and Bangladesh in their final 2 Super 8 clashes. The opening duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have been exceptional for Afghanistan throughout this league stage of the competition. Gurbaz is currently the leading run-getter in this mega event with a fabulous tally of 281 runs from as many as 7 matches at an average of 40.14 while Zadran has smashed 229 runs at an average of 32.71. In the bowling department, left-arm speedster Fazalhaq Farooqi is the leading wicket-taker a total of 16 scalps with an average of 9.31. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has also taken as many as 14 wickets and pace bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has scalped 13 wickets from 7 matches.

While talking about the defending champions, England have managed to raise their game in the brilliant wins over West Indies and United States of America (USA). After their poor defeat against Australia in the first round, it seemed at one stage that England will be eliminated early on during the tournament. England's bowling has been excellent in this competition to a great extent with experienced leg-spinner Adil Rashid being the standout bowler.

The Indian team entered this contest as one of the favourites to win the prestigious trophy and they have surely lived up to the massive expectations. India have won all of their matches against Ireland, Pakistan, USA, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia. The Men in Blue will be feeling very much high on confidence after their brilliant performance against Australia in their final Super 8 clash. The Rohit Sharma-led team will be seeking a revenge from England after they faced a humiliating 10-wicket defeat in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2022. The likes of skipper Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav will certainly be their important players.
