Why is Faf du Plessis not playing the DC vs MI match? Check DC Playing XI

In their next challenge, Mumbai Indians are set to battle it out against Delhi Capitals, the only unbeaten team so far in IPL 2025. Thriving under the new captaincy of Axar Patel, DC have emerged as one of the strongest sides this season. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have had a rough campaign, managing just one win from their five matches so far. The DC vs MI IPL 2025 clash brings the action to the national capital, as the undefeated Delhi side returns home. However, they’ll be without their first-choice opener, Faf du Plessis. The designated vice-captain had missed the previous fixture against CSK due to injury, and it appears the same issue has resurfaced. As a result, Delhi Capitals will host Mumbai Indians without du Plessis in their Playing XI.

The Delhi Capitals skipper, Axar Patel won the toss and opted to field first against MI at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Following the toss, Patel informed that Faf du Plessis would miss the fixture. Notably, the 40-year-old missed the CSK vs DC fixture, their third match of the season due to an injury. While Faf returned for the match against RCB, the opener didn't field in Bengaluru. Moreover, Faf was not seen in the optional practice session ahead of the match against Mumbai Indians. While marred by the injury, Faf has scored 81 runs across 3 matches, including a half-century against SRH.

However, DC won’t fret over Faf’s absence, as they have the perfect replacement in KL Rahul to step into the role. In three matches so far, KL has batted in both the top and middle order, showcasing his prowess in both positions. Against CSK, he opened the innings and anchored the chase with a tenacious 77-run knock. While KL is expected to open for DC against MI, young Abishek Porel is likely to follow, ahead of the likes of Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel.
