Kick-starting the proceedings in the afternoon fixture, GT captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first under the blazing sun. Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel, in turn, confirmed that opening batter Jake Fraser McGurk has been dropped from the DC Playing XI for the match.

Delhi Capitals have enjoyed a sublime run in IPL 2025 so far, picking up just a sole defeat across six matches in the ongoing season. However, despite being a key part of the squad, Jake Fraser McGurk has not shared the same success as his team this season. Six matches into the campaign, the promising opener has struggled to find form. In six innings, McGurk has been dismissed for a duck twice, with his highest score being just 38. Overall, he has managed to accumulate a meagre total of 55 runs at a disappointing average of 9.16.

Now, for the GT vs DC match, it appears that Delhi Capitals have cut short the rope given to the Australian batter. Interestingly, DC have fielded only two overseas players in their starting XI for the contest in Ahmedabad. Abishek Porel, who has been featuring as an Impact Player, has now been included in the main XI as McGurk sits out. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis continues to remain absent from the Delhi Capitals lineup in Ahmedabad.
