Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing GT vs MI IPL 2025 match? Check MI playing 11
Much like other seasons, Mumbai Indians have started their campaign with a defeat in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. Chennai Super Kings beat them by four wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in their opening game on Sunday. The Mumbai-based franchise is set to play its second game against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, today.
After missing out on the last game, skipper Hardik Pandya will make his return to the playing XI. In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav led the side but couldn’t lead his side to a win. Meanwhile, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will continue to miss out due to his injury.
For the unversed, Bumrah picked up a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He was phenomenal in the series before hurting his back in the Sydney Test. The injury led him to getting ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and speculations are going around his availability in the ongoing 2025 edition of IPL. Before the start of the tournament, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene shared an update on the fast bowler. He updated the fans that Bumrah is progressing well, however, he is yet to get an update from the BCCI medical team regarding his availability.
He acknowledged that his absence is a big setback for the franchise while labeling him as the best bowler in the world.
“[Bumrah] has just started his progress. We have to wait and see what their [BCCI medical team] feedback is on him."
"At the moment, everything is going well. But, obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis. He is in good spirits. Not having him is a challenge. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and he has been a fantastic pro for us for many years,” Jayawardena added on the fitness of the Indian pacer. Bumrah has played all his IPL cricket for the Mumbai Indians with 165 wickets in 133 matches.
