Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest cricketers in the world who has represented the Indian team for over 24 long years in international cricket tournaments from 1989 to 2013, where he has achieved several milestones from being the batsman to score most hundreds in international cricket to becoming a player to play most matches for a team in longest format of the game. It would not be wrong to say that with his incredible achievement in international cricket, he has been called as, the God of cricket, who has always helped the team under difficult circumstances and from that situation, he made the team win single-handedly.

Tendulkar’s international career was not less than a movie where a young boy from Maharashtra at the age of 16 years, stands tall against Pakistan's fierce bowling attack despite getting hurt in the nose on the ball of Waqar Younis, he was resistant to not taking retired hurt and agreed to play with a bleeding nose saying “Nahi, mai Khelega” scoring a fifty which saved his team from losing the match.

If we talk about Sachin Tendulkar Stats in one format, which Tendulkar played the most in his 24 years of career was the 50 overs format, where he has played a total of 464 ODIs for Men in Blue, scoring 18426 runs with an average of 46, having 1 double hundred and 49 hundred to his name. These ODI stats of Sachin Tendulkar has made made him one of the best batsman in the world.

Players like Master Blaster are born in one generation who devote their complete lives to a particular sport and come out as the finest players of the generations. However, it was Sachin Tendulkar’s elder brother, Ajit Tendulkar, was the person who encouraged him to start playing cricket in 1984 under the coach of Ramakant Achrekar. During his cricket training at Shivaji Park, he decided to move in with his uncle and aunt, who lived in the vicinity. Besides playing during his school hours, he also played club cricket. At the age of just 11, Sachin made his debut in the Kanga Cricket League, representing John Bright Cricket Club. But to become the greatest cricketer in the world was not easy for God as he had to go through a lot of ups and downs in his life, where in his young days, he lost his beloved father when he was playing cricket for the Indian team against Zimbabwe and he flew back to India for his final rites. He did return in his form for the next match and scored 140 runs (not out), dedicating the match to his dead father.

Everybody knew that a star was born after he made an unbroken partnership of 664 runs with former Indian cricketer and his best friend in 1998 for Shardashram Vidya Mandir School in a Harris Shield Inter school match against St. Xavier High School. Sachin scored 325 not out in that match. On 14 November 1987, 14-year-old Sachin was selected to represent Bombay in the Ranji Trophy for the 1987–88 season. However, he didn't play any final matches and was only used as a substitute fielder for all 11 matches. Later on Dec 11, 1988, he made his debut for Bombay at Wankhede Stadium against Gujarat. He proved that he's the one to look out for as he scored a century (not out), making him the youngest Indian player to score 100 runs on debut in first-class cricket.

Know why Sachin Tendulkar is called the God of Cricket?

It’s not yet clear who gave Sachin Tendulkar the name of God of Cricket but he started to be called as God by his teammates after his incredible record in the cricketing world. Let’s go through the impeccable record of the master blaster, which will make everyone call him the God of Cricket.

  1. The only cricketer to score more than 30,000 runs in international cricket.
  2. Sachin Tendulkar played for 24 long years for the Indian cricket team from 1989 to 2013, where he scored the most runs in international cricket in all three formats of the game with 34357 runs in 664 matches with an average of 48 having 100 hundred and 164 half-centuries to his name.

  4. Players to score most fours in a format (2058)
  5. Fastest cricketer to reach 15,000 Test Runs
  6. A player to play most One Day Internationals (463)
  7. First cricketer to score a double hundred in ODI cricket
  8. Youngest cricketer to be awarded with Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2002.

There are several reasons why he has been called as the God of Cricket apart from his achievement on the field, his sheer determination and dedication towards the game off the field, battling with injuries, period of loss of form and coming out of depression after the loss of 2007 World Cup, where he was unable to give his best and team has been eliminated from the group after getting defeated from Bangladesh. Despite all this, Tendulkar has inspired many generations of Indian cricketers and is still someone young players look up to. It's his overall persona that makes him the greatest cricketer of all time, and for, numerous people, the God of Cricket.
