India pacer Umesh Yadav faced an unexpected setback during the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL 2025 mega auction), as he went unsold despite a solid IPL 2024 season. Umesh had been bought by Gujarat Titans in the 2024 mini auction for INR 5.80 crore, where he played seven matches and picked up eight wickets at an average of 26.25, with an economy rate of 10. However, despite his relatively good performance last season, he failed to attract any bids during the IPL 2025 auction, leaving the right-arm pacer feeling frustrated and disturbed. Umesh Yadav, who has played 148 IPL games, has represented several franchises over the years, including Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans.

His experience and consistent contributions in the past have made him a valuable asset for any IPL team, but this year, the pacer found himself without a team. In an emotional statement after the auction, Umesh opened up about his feelings of disappointment and frustration at not being picked for the 18th season of the IPL. Despite his achievements in domestic cricket and his impressive IPL record, this setback has undoubtedly been a tough moment for the veteran fast bowler. He now faces the challenge of regaining his confidence and finding his place in the cricketing world again.

“Everyone knows that I wasn’t selected for the IPL this year. I have been playing for 15 years. It (unsold at IPL 2025) is very shocking for me. Why should I lie? It feels bad. After playing so much and playing close to 150 IPL matches, you don’t get selected. It’s shocking. It’s upon the franchises and their strategies, or my name came late in the auction, and they weren't left with money. Regardless, something has happened. I am very frustrated and disturbed. But still, it’s okay. I can’t change anyone’s decision,” stated senior pacer Umesh Yadav in a recent interview.

After the conclusion of IPL 2024, Umesh Yadav underwent surgery, which he had informed his fans about, vowing to come back stronger. The pacer had been dealing with some physical issues but remained determined to return to top form. Despite being overlooked during the IPL 2025 auction, Umesh's resilience shone through in his response. He confidently revealed that his body can still bowl at speeds of 140 km/h, a testament to his commitment to maintaining his fitness and performance.

Umesh emphasized that the day his body can no longer produce those speeds, he will step away from bowling. His words reflect his deep passion for the game and his determination to stay competitive for as long as possible. Even though he missed out on an IPL contract this season, the 36-year-old pacer remains focused on his goals, vowing to continue working hard and pushing his limits. His positive mindset and commitment to his craft show that Umesh Yadav is not ready to give up just yet, and he hopes to continue contributing to Indian cricket in whatever capacity he can.

“After that, I had my leg surgery. Till I feel I can clock 140 kmph, I will bowl. When I won’t be able to bowl, I’ll quit cricket myself. I won’t have to tell this to anyone,” Umesh added.
