Will MS Dhoni be seen making his debut in a movie from South Industry?

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has been known as one of the most loved and followed sportspersons in the world. Coming from a normal middle-class family and making his name globally as one of the most successful Indian captains, with 3 ICC Trophies to his name, along with making the Indian national cricket team the number 1 team in all formats, is not everyone’s cup of tea! However, the star player retired from international cricket after failing to help India win the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2019 when they required 24 runs in 9 balls in the semi-final against the Kiwis.

He announced his retirement after 1 year through a social media post, showing his journey in his cricketing career via a reel, featuring the song “Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar” to express his inner feelings like a hero to the world. This expression was loved and adored by several cricketing fans, which has already made him like a superstar, especially in the southern region of India, where he is called “Thala,” meaning big brother, for showing his love and passion by playing for the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings from the inception of the league in 2008.

Irrespective of being known as one of the best cricketers, MS Dhoni has been seen as a good actor in front of the camera, which we have seen him doing in several major advertisements over the years. It could also be one of the reasons why Indian fans want to see their favourite player in a movie. 

Speaking of this, according to sources, the former Indian captain is all set to make his debut in the Tollywood industry in Thalapathy Vijay’s 400-crore movie. This could be possible because Dhoni still shares a close relationship with Tamil Nadu as he continues to lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and even led them to the IPL 2023 title at the age of 41. However, it is not yet confirmed, but according to sources, talks are underway for CSK skipper Dhoni to take on the role of the lead antagonist in the much-anticipated movie ‘Thalapathy 68’ starring ‘Master’ star Vijay.

This upcoming film, being made by the well-known filmmaker Venkat Prabhu, has stirred up a wave of speculation. Although no official word has been released yet regarding Dhoni’s involvement, these rumors have stirred up excitement among Dhoni’s fans on social media.

You may not know that Dhoni and his wife Sakshi have already launched a film production company called Dhoni Entertainment Pvt Ltd. The company recently made its debut with a Tamil movie titled ‘Let’s Get Married.’ The former India wicketkeeper had already created a buzz among his fans in the South when he appeared on the sets of Vijay’s ‘Beast’ movie back in 2021.

Even Sakshi Dhoni had not ruled out her husband making movie debut sometime soon. “If a character with good story & good message comes, then MS Dhoni will consider acting in a movie,” Sakshi Dhoni was quoted as saying by the Chennai Today last month.

In addition to 'Let’s Get Married' (LGM), Dhoni Entertainment has produced three small-budget films: 'Roar of the Lion,' 'The Hidden Hindu,' and 'Blaze to Glory.' Sakshi also mentioned that the cricketer would be best suited for action films.

After Chennai failed to qualify for the playoffs following the loss against RCB in a must-win game, it's not yet clear whether MS Dhoni will be taking part in the next edition of the league as he was seen struggling due to injuries. However, the answer to this question could be only given by CSK management in the mega-auction which will help in the upcoming months.
