Stephen Fleming, who is one of the best coaches in international cricket will be seen coaching the Indian team for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after the completion of Rahul Dravid’s tenure for the Indian team. However, the news is yet to be confirmed by the BCCI.
The Former New Zealand cricketer has been with the Chennai-based franchise since the inception of Indian Premier League where he made them win 5 times. However, he needs to make a big sacrifice for the position of head coach for Chennai Super Kings before joining the Indian team as a head coach. Meanwhile, as of now, BCCI has not contacted Fleming to take over the about-to-be-vacated position.
Talking about this Fleming said,
"I have not heard anything like this. There has been no communication from Stephen Fleming to CSK either," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the current update to Sports Now.”
Apart from the Kiwi Opener, multiple reports suggest that the BCCI ideally looks for proven individuals such as Ricky Ponting, VVS Laxman and Justin Langer to be a 'suitable candidate’ as Dravid’s replacement. Now only time will tell who gets the offer and accepts it. Nevertheless, Fleming’s experience and the legacy he built at CSK make him one of the most exciting options for this role among many.
According to some news, Rahul Dravid can be re-appoint as the position of head coach after his successful tenure of 2 years. However, recently reports have surfaced that the former India captain is not interested in re-applying for the vacant post.
