England’s legendary footballer, Alan Shearer reckons that Bukayo Saka has all the attributes to become England’s future captain. Saka has developed into one of most important players for both the England team and Arsenal. The 23-year-old has made 236 appearances for the Gunners and 42 appearances for the national side.
Last year, he got the opportunity to lead Arsenal and is now tipped to be the future England skipper. England’s current skipper, Harry Kane is 31 and the young Saka, who is eight years younger to him, becomes a perfect fit to lead the side in the future.
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer backed Saka as the future England captain. He highlighted his positive attitude and his ability to perform in crunch situations.
‘It wouldn’t surprise me to see Saka as a future England captain. He’s already captained Arsenal and because of his attitude, ability, and the way everyone looks up to him, that to me shows he has all the attributes to be an England captain.” Shearer said.
Shearer praised Saka's level-headed approach and how seamlessly he moved on from the England saga in 2021. The Premier League record goalscorer also spoke about his inner strength, which helps him perform admirably despite the unstoppable pressure from the opposition.
“Bukayo Saka is absolutely sensational in everything he does. He gets whacked every single game, people try double up on him, kick him and he just goes out and performs with such consistency.” he added.
Bukayo Saka makes brilliant start to the ongoing campaign
Bukayo Saka has been one of the consistent performers since making his debut for Arsenal. He has made a positive start to the current campaign, scoring two goals and making seven assists in seven games. Likewise, Arsenal have made a terrific start, accumulating five wins in seven games. They find themselves at third on the table, behind Liverpool and Manchester City.
Arsenal would be keen to end their 21-year wait for the trophy. Under Mikel Arteta, there is no denying that Arsenal have performed exceedingly well over the last two seasons but failed short of holding the trophy.
Arsenal last won the trophy back in 2003-04, where they went unbeaten. Former midfielder Gilberto Silva, who was part of the squad, praised Arsenal’s manager and expressed confidence that his team will win the title soon.
