Liverpool has suffered a big blow as they will be without their star goalkeeper Allison Becker for at least a month. The Brazilian picked up a hamstring injury during the clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
He was forced off in the 79th minute and was replaced by the debutant goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros. It has now been confirmed that he will be sidelined for approximately four weeks, dealing a significant blow to Liverpool's campaign.
As per reports, Alisson won’t be making a comeback until the next international break, which is scheduled between 11 and 19 November. This can be a cause of concern as Liverpool have a tough set of fixtures before the next international break as they face Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Ashton Villa in the Premier League.
In addition to that, they will also be locking horns with RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and Brighton in the Carabao Cup. Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher wasn’t available in the clash against Crystal Palace but he will be the first choice to feature in the absence of Allison Becker.
“It is quite clear then that he [Kelleher] is the number two”- Arne Slot
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot has shed light on his preference as the first choice option to replace Allison.
"It is quite clear then that he [Kelleher] is the number two," said Liverpool boss Arne Slot following the game at Selhurst Park."
"Otherwise, the last time Alisson was injured I would have played Vit, but I played Caoimhin. So Caoimhin is the number two and did really well."
It is worth noting that it was Caoimhin Kelleher, who found a place in the starting XI when Allison was out in September. The former played against Bournemouth and League Cup victory against West Ham.
Liverpool has been nothing short of sensational in the ongoing Premier League season. They are sitting at the top of the table with six wins in seven games. Liverpool will host Chelsea in their backyard, after the international break on 20th October at Anfield in a bid to inch closer in the title race.
