Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has lauded Kylian Mbappe for his performance against Getafe in their 2-0 win on Sunday (December 1). Mbappe scored Madrid’s second goal in the 38th minute of the clash after it was smartly set up by Jude Bellingham. A lot was being said of the Frenchman’s poor show for the club since he joined them from Paris Saint-Germain this season. This was only the 10th goal for Real Madrid from the 25-year-old in 19 appearances. The numbers are in stark contrast with his record at PSG where he used to find the nets for fun.
However, Mbappe was successful in impressing his manager Ancelotti with the latter also felt that the player was active and that he finally performed as per expectations.
“Kylian Mbappé? He played very well, he scored a very important goal. Very active game. This is what we want from him,” Ancelotti said (via MadridXtra on X).
Earlier, Bellingham had opened Madrid’s account by converting the penalty before Mbappe’s strike helped them seal the clash 2-0 against Getafe. Real Madrid, with this win, have jumped to the second spot with 10 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss in 14 matches. They have 33 points and are only one point behind the leaders Barcelona. Moreover, the club has a game in hand compared to the other teams in the top four.
Real Madrid will next face fourth placed Athletic club on December 5 at 1:30 AM IST and will be keen on jumping to the top of the table. However, prior to that, Barcelona are scheduled to clash with Mallorca tomorrow (December 3) at 11:30 PM IST. Even they will be keen on extending their lead up at the top.
What had Carlo Ancelotti said of Mbappe ahead of Getafe clash
Ahead of the match against Getafe, Carlo Ancelotti had made it clear that he expects more effort from Kylian Mbappe. While he didn’t openly criticize the French superstar, but let him know the exact expectations from him through the media.
As of now, the way he played in the previous outing, Mbappe seems to have returned to form and Madrid’s manager will be hoping that their best player returns to scoring regularly for the club.
