Former Real Madrid and Manchester United attacking midfielder, Angel di Maria has disagreed with Ronaldo’s claim of being the Greatest of All Time in a recent interview, sparking the debate amongst the fans. The Argentine international stated that Lionel Messi is way above Cristiano Ronaldo in all aspects. He mentioned that Lionel Messi is the best among the two to grace the sport.

In an interview with a sports outlet, Angel di Maria compared the difference between the two stalwarts of the game. The attacking midfielder stated that the Portuguese international always tried to influence and become the best whereas Messi was touched by a magic wand. He also brought up the Ballon d’Ors won by the players to prove his point on the debate between two players. Also, he said that Lionel Messi is a World Cup and Copa Americas winner whereas Cristiano Ronaldo has only Euros to his name.

I'm not surprised, I was with him [Ronaldo] for four years. It was always like that. He always made those statements, he always tried to be the best, but well, he was born in a generation, just at a bad time, because another one was born who was touched by the magic wand [Messi]. The reality is shown in numbers. One has eight Ballons d'Or, the other five. There is a very big difference. Being a world champion is another very big difference, having two Copa Americas

While highlighting the differences between the two players, Angel di Maria also mentioned the consistency of Messi that keeps him above the rest. He said:

There are many differences, many. And then you see him in the games, you see it in every minute of every game, that one plays as if he were in the backyard. He hits the same goal as always and keeps doing it. And he's been doing it for 18, 20 years.

What next for Angel di Maria?

The 37-year-old Argentina international is playing for SL Benfica in the Portuguese top flight and has been instrumental in Benfica’s position on the points table with his 11 G/A from 21 games. In the continental showdown, he has three G/A to his name in nine games with Benfica playing the playoffs ahead of the Round of 16.
