Joe Gomez has been a part of the Liverpool setup for a long time. He has been a key player for Liverpool, showcasing his versatility across multiple defensive roles. During his time at the club, he has played a crucial part in securing major trophies, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

On February 9, 2025, during an FA Cup match against Plymouth Argyle, Gomez had to exit the field just 10 minutes into the game due to a hamstring injury. This setback came soon after his recovery from a previous hamstring problem.

Liverpool FC suffered a disappointing defeat in the FA Cup against Plymouth Argyle, a lower-league side with incredible resilience. Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, Liverpool struggled to break through Plymouth’s disciplined defense. A second-half penalty proved to be the decisive moment, handing Liverpool an unexpected exit from the competition.

"I am not too sure if it was the same leg"- Arne Slot on Gomez' injury

Liverpool manager Arne Slot revealed that it was still uncertain whether Joe Gomez has sustained a recurrence of the same issue or it is a completely different injury.

He stated,

” I am not too sure. I am not too sure if it was the same leg, but I haven't had time to ask him," Slot told reporters. "It was clear, I think we all know which moment he felt a bit insecure about [it] because he didn't sprint back full.”

Slot added,

“It's not torn I assume, but it didn't feel good for him. That was a bit of a blow because Curtis Jones was on the bench, but he came to me this morning and said, 'I don't think I am fully recovered yet' as well after the training session of yesterday. That all of a sudden led to the fact we were with a few more youngsters on the pitch than was the idea before the game, but still there was enough quality on the pitch to get a better result than this.”

Joe Gomez's injury will be a significant setback for Liverpool’s Premier League campaign, especially given his versatility in defense. With the team already dealing with injuries to key players, his absence further limits their defensive options. This could weaken Liverpool’s backline, affecting their defensive stability in crucial matches.
