Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic to bolster their attack in the Premier League. Interestingly, the club is willing to use underperforming Gabriel Jesus in order to try and lure the Series A star.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants Vlahovic in their line-up as he feels he is the perfect fit for them and the Gunners seem to be ready to make a move in January 2025. The reports surfaced soon after former footballer Tony Cascarinho hit out at Gabriel for his poor show for Arsenal after joining the team in the 2022-23 season.
Gabriel has scored only 27 goals for Arsenal in a staggering 93 appearances so far to go with 17 assists. He was with Manchester City before joining the Gunners and had fared extremely well for them netting 85 goals in 227 appearances for the club. However, he failed to replicate a similar show for Arsenal.
“When he and Zinchenko first arrived, there was considerable optimism surrounding them. Their experience from a successful club was exactly what Arsenal needed. However, the longer he stays with us, the poorer he seems to get. His form has certainly dipped."
“Injuries and time spent on the bench can affect a player’s confidence and rhythm. He appears erratic, especially for a player of his caliber who has achieved so much. The criteria for forwards nowadays is their clinical finishing, and he simply hasn’t been clinical enough for us, particularly in the past year,” Cacarinho said on takSPORT.
Mikel Arteta backs Jesus to do well at Arsenal
Amidst reports of the club letting Gabriel Jesus go in a swap deal, Mikel Arteta has backed the Brazilian to do well. He reckons that the 27-year-old needs a bit of luck going his way and soon things will get better for him. Arteta is happy with his recent performance and is backing him to find his form soon.
Meanwhile, Arsenal knocked out Crystal Palace beating them 3-2 in the EFL Cup Quarterfinal on December 18, and are scheduled to face the same team in the Premier League on December 21 at 11 PM IST.
