According to the recent announcement by the Football Association, the Premier League title-chasing side, Arsenal are fined £65,000 after the players failed to comply with the discipline during the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. This is in relation to the players surrounding Michael Oliver after he gave a direct red to Myles Lewis-Skelly in the game against Wolves.

The statement read:

An independent Regulatory Commission has imposed a £65,000 fine on Arsenal in relation to the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 25 January

It was alleged that Arsenal failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way around the 43rd minute, and the club subsequently admitted to this charge.

The Regulatory Commission imposed this sanction following a hearing, and its written reasons for this can be read below.

What happened during the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers?

Arsenal were up against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux and with them chasing the Premier League title, they went all guns blazing. Arsenal were in their attacking half, and in a potential counter-attacking scenario for Wolves, Myles Lewis-Skelly tripped Matt Doherty. The younger full-back’s act was considered a serious foul play for which Michael Oliver handed the player a red in what was deemed to be a yellow card offense.

As soon as the player was sent off, nine Arsenal players surrounded the referee showing a dissent. Though the red card was later rescinded, it did not sit well with the players who wanted the youngster to be on the pitch.

However, the Football Association took cognizance of serious misconduct with the referee and has fined the club three times of what it should have been. For the misconduct, the clubs are fined up to £20,000 but Arsenal has been fined heavily due to multiple reasons, including the number of players surrounding the referee and the length of the protests.
