Despite being seven points from the title contenders, Real Madrid, Barcelona continued their business as usual in the Spanish top flight as they routed Valencia with seven-goal thrashing. The Catalonian outfit were merciless against Valencia, who are battling relegation in the ongoing campaign. Five goal scorers for Barcelona ensured that a victory against Valencia improved their goal difference compared to the arch-rivals.
During the game, Hansi Flick wanted to bring on the star midfielder who has been battling consistent injuries over the past season, Gavi, but his gesture stole the heart. While the former German and Bayern Munich manager wanted to bring on the 20-year-old, he insisted on bringing in Pablo Torre, who has clocked just 373 minutes across all campaigns in 2024-25. This gesture is currently applauded not only by fans but also by the manager.
The 20-year-old has just 11 La Liga appearances with four starts under his belt in the ongoing campaign. Hansi Flick also said that a player like Gavi, who wants to play every game of the campaign, pointing to this gesture is fantastic to see as a coach. He said:
"The situation I'm most impressed with is when I spoke with Gavi. Normally I bring him on with 15 minutes to go and he said no, bring Pablo Torre in. You can see the team how they are connected. It's fantastic to see as a coach. I love Gavi for this. You know he wants to play every match and to say this in this situation, it's top"
With that 7-1 rout, Barcelona completed 100 goals in 21 games in the La Liga. With the win, they have reduced the gap to three points to the second-placed Atletico Madrid and seven points to the table toppers, Real Madrid.
Who are Barcelona playing next?
With Barcelona continuing their dream run in the continental showdown, they will play against Atalanta on 29th January at Camp Nou to finish in the top two spots. While they continue to battle for supremacy in La Liga, the UEFA Champions League can be a welcome distraction for the club who are waiting to win since 2015.
