According to recent reports, the Belgium national team has sacked Tedesco from his role as manager following a poor run of results across friendlies and leagues. The Italian-German international was under severe pressure after the team accumulated only two wins from ten games. The sacking comes after Tedesco failed to inspire his side in Euro 2024 as well as the Nations League.

In their statement, the Royal Belgian Football Association said that the manager had a great EURO qualifying campaign but failed to live up to the expectations in the tournament. In the statement, they also mentioned that the assistant coaches including Andreas Hinkel, Max Urwantschky, Vladimir Cepzanovic, Umberto Tedesco, and Luke Benstead will also leave the national team.

The statement read:

Following a detailed evaluation, the RBFA Sports Committee today decided to end its collaboration with national coach Domenico Tedesco. This decision has been approved by the Board of Directors. The search for a successor is now underway.

"I am 100 percent sure that the team will qualify for the World Cup"- Domenico Tedesco

Domenico Tedesco, while departing from the club, mentioned that he is proud of managing the side over the last two years. The 39-year-old was also hopeful about the team making it to the FIFA World Cup 2026 while they continue to grow. He wished the best for the side he had managed to win against Ukraine and also close the UEFA Nations League with two out of two wins.

His statement read:

I was always proud to be the coach of the Red Devils, we achieved great things together. A beautiful journey is now unfortunately coming to an end. I am 100 percent sure that the team will prevail against Ukraine and also confidently qualify for the World Cup. This team is still at the beginning of its development and will cause a sensation in the coming years.

Domenico Tedesco held the team's reins after the Golden Generation of the Belgian team was transitioning out of the team. Tedesco managed the national side over 24 games and averaged 1.75 games per 90 minutes. His life with the Belgian national team started on a high note in the post-Roberto Martinez era with him going unbeaten in the first 13 fixtures. However, in the UEFA Nations League, Belgium have four points from six games with one win and four losses causing damage to its reputation. Also, Thibaut Courtois vowing not to play again under Tedesco caused a rift within the national team.

According to Belgian media, Roberto Martinez’s assistant coach, Thierry Henry is expected to be the next coach for the national team. It remains interesting to see how this will pan out for Belgium football.
