As a result, Real Madrid chose to skip the prestigious ceremony, signaling their displeasure with the overall proceedings.
In a recent interview before the UEFA Champions League clash between Manchester City and Real Madrid, manager Carlo Ancelloti was asked about skipping the Ballon d’Or ceremony. The veteran defended club’s decision to snub the Paris outing in order to send a statement.
He stated,
“Ballon d’Or gala? I don't think it was a wrong decision (not to attend). We didn't attend because we thought Vinicius was the winner of the Ballon d'Or. Nothing against Rodri, I think he should have won it the year before.”
Carlo revealed that there is no bad blood between the two sides as both clubs maintain mutual respect despite Real Madrid’s decision to skip the Ballon d'Or ceremony. He emphasized that the rivalry remains competitive on the field but does not extend to off-field matters, echoing Pep Guardiola’s sentiments that the issue is settled.
