Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has created history for the club after his team defeated Pachuca in the final of the Intercontinental Cup on Wednesday (December 18). Madrid won the summit clash 3-0 comfortably as the CONCACAF Champions Cup winners from Mexico ran out of steam in Qatar.
Ancelotti was the real star of the night for Madrid as the team won its 15th title with him as the manager. He has etched his name in the history books of the European giants becoming the most successful manager in the club's history. The former AC Milan manager went past club legend Miguel Munoz, who won 14 titles during his time as the club manager between 1959 and 1974.
Interestingly, Ancelotti was the team’s boss first between 2013 and 2015 and his second stint started in 2021. With him in charge of the team, Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League twice, in 2014 and 2022. He also won two league titles in 2022 and 2024, Copa del Rey in 2014 and 2023, and the Spanish Super Cup in 2022 and 2024. Real Madrid won the UEFA Super Cup in 2014, 2022, and 2024 while also lifting the FIFA Club World Cup in 2014 and 2022.
Ancelotti also holds the record for being the most successful manager in the UEFA Champions League having won the tournament five times, out of which three came with his former team AC Milan.
Kylian Mbappe stars for Madrid in title win
As far as the match is concerned, the European Champions dominated the final of the Intercontinental Cup right from the word go against Pachuca. The Mexican side couldn’t keep up with their quality of football and went down 0-3.
Star player Kylian Mbappe opened the account for Madrid in the 37th minute with Vinicius Jr providing an assist. Rodrygo doubled their lead in the 53rd minute while Vinicius Jr was again in action scoring the team’s third goal from the penalty spot in the 84th minute. Riding high on confidence after winning the Intercontinental Cup, Real Madrid will next face Sevilla in La Liga on December 22 at 8:45 PM IST.
