Chelsea are interested in re-signing Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace after selling him to the club in 2021. The 24-year-old is understood to be on the defensive targets of the Blues. Interestingly, Chelsea had sold Guehi to Crystal Palace for 18 million pounds in 2021 and it is perplexing that the club wants the defender back. For the unversed, Guehi had signed a five-year deal with the Palace while joining and still 18 months are left in his contract.

Palace are yet to be officially contacted by Chelsea but Guehi’s representatives are well aware of the interest from his former club. Chelsea’s efforts to sign a defender in the summer transfer window have become desperate especially after losing Wesley Fofana to a massive hamstring injury. According to manager Enzo Maresca, the injury is also likely to rule Fofana out of the remainder of the season.

Chelsea are also missing Benoit Badiashile, who is ruled out of action until at least February 2025. Coming back to Marc Guehi, he didn’t play much for Chelsea in his first stint making only two appearances for the senior team, both in the EFL Cup in 2019. He spent a season and a half at Swansea on loan before moving to Crystal Palace in 2021.

Marc Guehi’s performance for Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi played a total of 57 matches for Swansea before signing a five-year deal with Crystal Palace. He has so far played 126 matches for the club across competitions and scored a total of five goals and assisting in three. With 18 months still left in his contract, it is not yet known whether the 24-year-old is open to making a move back to Chelsea in the transfer window.

As far as Chelsea are concerned, they are in fourth place in the Premier League points table this season. They have so far played 20 matches winning 10, drawing 6 and losing four with 36 points to their name. The Blues will have to up their game in the second half of the season in order to climb in the table as they are still 10 points behind the leaders Liverpool.
