It’s only halfway to the 2024-25 season and Liverpool fans have started an early celebration as the Merseyside giants face no real competition for their record-equalling 19th Premier League title. And once again it’s Mohamed Salah, who is leading the charge. Liverpool sit at the top of the both English Premier League and UEFA Champions League points table and are in the EFL Cup semi-finals. Fans are jubilant with Arne Slot’s impact at Anfield but they are more worried about the Mohamed Salah’s potential exit at the end of the season.
The Egyptian forward is leading both goals and assists charts in the Premier League but has only over six months left in his contract with the Reds. The former Chelsea flop will be available to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1 and fans are requesting Salah to extend his contract.
One of those fans is Salah’s teammate Cody Gakpo. The Dutch winger appealed to Salah to sign a new contract and continue producing special things at Liverpool. Gapko highlighted Salah’s impact with goals and assists this season and said he is proud to be called an Egyptian teammate.
"It's very special what we are all witnessing,” Gakpo told Liverpool website. “The amount of goals he scores but the assists he gives as well, the way he plays the game, how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like myself in a position to score and to be dangerous is from a high level.
"I hope for us and for him that he can continue doing that for a long time. We are very lucky to have him and proud that we can be his teammate and try to make him better. And he is trying to make us better as well."
Mohamed Salah eyes major milestone on Boxing Day clash
As Liverpool host Leicester City in the Boxing Day fixture at Anfield, Mohamed Salah will look to join legendary forwards in another major Premier League milestone. Salah is just one goal away from recording 100 league goals in home games and considering his form, it is likely to occur against the Foxes.
Salah has netted 99 goals in 141 Premier League appearances at Anfield and will become the only 8th player in tournament history to breach the 100-goal mark. Before Salah, only Alan Shearer, Thiery Henry, Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney, Robbie Fowler, Andy Cole, and Harry Kane managed to achieve 100 home goals.
