Cristiano Ronaldo’s team Al-Nassr has been dealt a huge blow as one of their key players, Abdullah Al-Khaibari, has sustained an injury in the national team camp. The defensive midfielder has been with the club since 2019 and has been a vital cog in their wheel, since.
Given Al-Nassr's current position in the Saudi Pro League, Abdullah's injury has come at the wrong time. He has done really well this season for them, featuring in 12 matches and maintaining a passing accuracy of around 93% per game (as per Sofascore). On multiple occasions, Abdullah has also broken the opposition's attacking lines
The Saudi star and Cristiano Ronaldo have already played together a staggering 70 times across different competitions but have yet to record a joint goal for the club. As for injury, the Saudi Arabia national team confirmed the development on its X handle releasing an official statement
“The national team coach, Herve Renard, excluded the player Abdullah Al-Dhaibiri from the Green Camp in Riyadh. This came based on the medical report submitted by the national team’s medical staff, and his need for a treatment and rehabilitation program,” the statement read (translated from Google).
Al-Nassr’s recent form is not great
Currently, the Knights of Najd are not in great form with only two wins in the last five matches. They are in the fourth position in the Saudi Pro League with seven wins, four draws, and two losses from 13 outings and have 25 points to their name- 11 fewer than the league leaders Al-Ittihad.
Al-Nassr are really struggling this season with their recent loss coming against the table toppers Ittihad. Prior to that, they went down to Al Sadd in the AFC Champions League and are desperately in need to return to winning ways.
Their star player Cristiano Ronaldo had vowed to come back stronger on his X handle after a loss at the hands of Al-Ittihad on December 6. The team is currently enjoying a break and their next match is scheduled to be played on January 9, 2025 against Al Akhdoud at 10:30 PM IST.
