Manchester United have struggled in the ongoing season in the English Premier League as well as other competitions but what has saved them is their performance in the Europa League. Even under Ruben Amorim, their life has not taken off considering the change in tactics from 4-2-3-1 to 3-4-3. Amidst all these, the club has also struggled in between the sticks as Andre Onana’s mistakes leading to goals have led to more losses and draws compared to others.

While the fans continue to outrage over replacing the Cameroon international, former Manchester United goalkeeping legend, Edwin Van der Sar believes that the 29-year-old has a great career before him. The Dutch legend believes that with more experience, he has six years in front of him to achieve greater heights with the Old Trafford outfit. The two-time Champions League winner also believes the player has the right attitude to be a Manchester United player. Talking to the media, he said:

"I think that it's quite early but Andre [Onana] has a fantastic career in front of him. He's gaining more experience. He has all the qualities that a goalkeeper needs so I'm sure for the next five to six years he will keep improving. He has the right attitude to be the goalkeeper for Man United for a very long time."

What does the Dutchman have to say about Manchester United’s transfer?

Edwin Van der Sar believes that the goalkeepers should not be a priority for Manchester United at this moment as the club needs reinforcements in the midfield and the attack. He believes the club should write off the season and bring firepower to address the systemic issues to do better in the pre-season. He said:

"With a good pre-season and one or two quality signings up front and maybe in midfield, United should be fine to challenge for those positions again."

What next for Andre Onana?

While Andre Onana enjoyed a better life with Erik ten Hag at the helm as he played more matches, Ruben Amorim has continued to rotate the squad in the Europa League and FA Cup. Altay Bayındır continues to shine in the games where he has been given a chance. It remains interesting to see if he will return in between the posts against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
