According to recent reports, former Manchester United and Barcelona star Memphis Depay has been caught for drinking and driving. The incident took place on Tuesday morning and he is currently ordered to serve a prison sentence for substance abuse. While he was tested, it has come to the observation that the player was found with 1.01mg per litre in the air when he exhaled into the breathalyzer.
The Dutch international drove a Rolls-Royce worth more than half a million dollars and is presently handed a suspended four-month prison sentence while also being fined 9000 euros. Also, the player is banned from driving a vehicle in Monaco for the next two years. While the player did apologize when he got arrested, he has two weeks to appeal the same decision.
The former Atletico Madrid star did not attend the sentencing at Monaco Criminal Court and, he also did not opt to send a lawyer to represent him at the court. According to reports, the court has sentenced the player significantly higher compared to usual instances. The usual punishment would have been a one-month suspended prison sentence with 2000 euros as a fine and a ban on driving in Monaco for half a year.

While at Barcelona, he showed glimpses of brilliance, the consistency was lacking. He joined Atletico Madrid later in 2023 before terminating his contract with the club to ply his trade in South America.
